What's new

Veritas build.

I dunno man, given what I know now, if I had the chance over again I'd take my chances with the marquis. The top nut on the Veritas is a bitch and the marquis has a much more effective solution.

Either that or wait for the Veritas MkII ;)
Patience, my dear schlinky. The top nut requires 30 seconds with pliers instead of 15 seconds with a screwdriver ... hardly reason to call it a bitch. Once built the coil lasts ages, right? So how can a few seconds put you off? The Marquis, unless I'm mistaken, is an obligatory dual coil build (more than 15 seconds perhaps?) and doesn't have the anti leak feature.

Maybe you have better dexterity than I or maybe it's an awkward design but I've recoiled the Veritas 4 or 5 times averaging 10 minutes a time. It's not a case of 30 seconds vs 15 seconds, more like 5 seconds vs 10 minutes (in my case at least).

I've seen videos where people coil the device as intended by the designer, it's a dual coil setup but the coils come out pretty rough. That can be done in a couple of minutes.

Maybe I haven't coiled it enough times to get a technique down but in my experience it's all too easy to accidentally grab both top nuts or otherwise somehow snag your coil and pull it apart. Sometimes you think it's tight but it's not, there's a myriad of things that can go wrong with that top section and IMHO that makes it a bad design.

You're right you don't need to recoil often but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be a simple and straight forward process. Even an extended (8-10mm) nut would allow the user to finger tighten the top nut and avoid the pliers headache. A custom butterfly type nut would also help but as it is I find it a fiddly little shit so I avoid using it.

For some reason mine also leaks via vapour condensation that runs down the internal walls and out the device, at that's where I think the leak's coming from.

For all those reasons I would have a hard time recommending this atty to anyone and I hope they address the issues in the v2, until then I reckon the Marquis is worth a punt.

As my preface states though, I could just be a cack handed mofo, YMMV. ;)

Something like this would make life a lot easier, there's other options at the bottom (although none are the right size). Not sure why something simliar isn't fitted as standard.

Well, we're all different. I struggle with other atties, just not this one.
15 seconds was for how long it takes to tighten the nut, not the total build time. I must admit that I take my time when building, I enjoy it plus I know the build will be in a long time so patience will be rewarded.
Your leaking issue should be addressed by replacing the 2 o-rings.
Hope you have a better time with the Marquis. Got a Venturi in the post today, looking forward to building that tomorrow - another leak-resistant design that shows promise.

I know I said I'd had it with the veritas, but the Mephisto I bought has a rubbish oring and keeps leaking so I decided to return to the veritas for now.

I built a single parallel vertical coil and followed this vids technique:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=60C-Kz4uQTk

It was a bit fiddly getting the positive leads to stay considering I've only got the stock nuts, but I managed it. I had to do about 9 wraps using .4mm kanthal and it came out at 0.7ohms. At first I used 80VG/20PG juice but I found it was having problems wicking and I wasn't getting the performance. I've just put some 60VG/40PG juice in and it's working much better. In the above vid the guy says to wick it by folding the cotton in half, but as my muji cotton pads were too small for that, I just put it in as one piece, the bottom part of the cotton laying on the deck and the top part I laid vertical against the coil.

I'm thinking I may have used too much cotton, maybe that's why it aint wicking great on higher VG. Anyway it's got nice size clouds for the veritas and the flavour is decent enough to keep using it.

Not exactly as easy build but with a bit of focus it's doable.

My Veritas Build, parked/retired it.
Airflow is restrictive & tight, as a noobie vaper I know that I'm a big hitter and prefer huge AFC.

Nice build mamba. I bet you get some clouds from that, with the coil bing quite low down also.

I ended up ripping out the parallel build. I don't think the veritas can really take it. Plus even on 30 watts it was struggling to heat up quickly. I went back to simples and put it a single 1.6ohm coil. It vapes really nice, and is probably the neatest coil I've ever made. Not big clouds, but enough, as I'm concentrating on flavour these days.

Thanks Bud...... I am powering it with a mech mod or 40-50 watts on Sigelei 100, but I am retiring it now due to restriction on its AFC.
Happy Vaping .......
I'm using my Mephisto V1 & V2, Mutation X V1, Little Boy V1, all dual coil build.
The Veritas AFC even fully open can't cope the way I drag hehehe
