Dr. Farsalinos is due to release a paper in a medical journal, revealing that diacetyl or AP was found in nearly 75% of liquids tested. Although reassuringly this was still in lesser amounts than smoking.

Diacetyl or AP when inhaled is known to cause a decline in lung function and a rare condition known as pulmonary obliterans.

There is a poster summarising the findings which can be found here. The full trial data is due to be published shortly.

I'll be interested to read it. I can honestly say that my breathing is affected by vaping but i would like to know more about the potential consequences. I'm currently attempting to cut back my intake & go back to smaller devices. Not easy when you've had your hands on some of the finer devices in the rebuildable sector !

Interesting, so from what I can understand the issue is with the flavourings and not the PG/VG/nic base?

Looks that way doesn't it. Just at a time when i'm getting away from most sweet flavoured liquids too. It's a bit of a concern.

Do we know what liquids where tested and what country they where gathered from ?

It was a study funded by donations from vapers. E-juice was purchased anonymously from around the world. I think it was about 124 bottles from all over. It was done on the understanding that no vendor was to be named. So as to not single anyone out. That wasn't the aim.
The aim if the substance they where looking for was found. Is that all vendors and producers will take a closer look at what is in their juice. Just in case it is them, and act accordingly. But by the look of it, it is the vast majority that need to take note.

Definately brands well known across Europe .I'm not sure about the USA .
i suppose we are only going to get to the bottom of this when the paper is released. I will be interested to know if the diacetyl is present as a baseline ingredient or is caused by a reaction on heating...

Oh of course. I wasn't getting the pitch fork out lol
Just thought as there are so many companies out there now its worth knowing it right across the board witch can't be a bad thing

This is great! These findings mean that these ingredients can be identified and eliminated....therefore no need for us to avoid our favorite habit.

Would be nice if they could provide the names of the 25% of liquids that were deemed as free from DA and AP. This would provide us with a list of 'safe' liquids for our benefit, while retaining the

anonymity of the offending 75%!

i'm really hoping capella vanilla custard is ok...
but something this good has to be bad
