I appreciate that everyone is totally different and everyone will have differing opinions on what they did/chose next, but I am at a crossroads.

Into my 2nd week now Cigarette free, but finding my Joytech Exceed just isn't quite hitting the spot now if that makes sense? I am using the MTL coil ( I think that's the correct terminology? ) but I see it comes with a Direct Lung one as well, would that maybe move me on to the next step in terms of " Getting as close to the smoking experience as possible " without actually smoking? Or do I simply need to move onto a different piece of kit altogether? Iv'e been researching the Jac Vim I think it's called? And that seems pretty simple to use whilst giving you a decent " Hit "

What did you do when you found that your current kit wasn't quite cutting it for you anymore? All replies would be most welcome folks, hope you're all well :yourock:

Welcome on board and congratulations on giving up the ciggies.

The eye-opener for me was moving from a restricted airflow, low power vape (MTl or mouth to lung) to an unrestricted airflow, high power vape (DTL or direct to lung). It just satisfies me more.

If you have a DTL coil it's worth a shot to see if you like it but be aware that a rule of thumb is that if you double the power you need to halve the nicotine ratio of the juice you use. 18mg juice at 60 watts will have you hugging the planet and hoping you don't fall off.

If you can give an idea of why you are not satisfied with your current setup it might help. Lack of nicotine hit? Lack of throat hit? Lack of flavour? Just bored?

If you've not smoked for 2 weeks then I would suggest what you have is working well. When I didn't smoke for 2 days I was excited, after two weeks I was overjoyed. After a few months you will probably stop thinking about smoking. It sounds to me that you aren't quite in that place yet and you are missing it. Your body and mind will be going through a lot at the moment. Try just sticking with it a little longer. There's all sorts of kit you can try which might make it more pleasurable in the future but it might not make it any easier to stop smoking. Getting enough nicotine is the most important thing right now.

Like @wraith , the early stages of my vaping journey involved the pursuit of more airflow. We didn't have the present incredible range of devices back in 2014-15, everything was built for MTL and many vapers were busy drilling out AFCs. Regulated mods had reached the heady heights of 30W ... unless you were prepared to really push the safety envelope using a mech.

I started out vaping properly after 2 years on cigalikes ... 2 expensive years ... so I quickly moved on from prebuilt coils and premade juice as these were clearly the best way to waste money. Rebuildables and DIY juice have saved me thousands of pounds.

I went through various RTAs, some of which could be persuaded to give a restricted DL, before I went into a dripper stage for 6 months, I tried out more than 50, mostly clones. That became a pursuit of RDAs that didn't leak - those with top down airflow worked best for me. Mods developed quickly to 100W and well beyond in a short space of time, they got bigger and gradually more reliable. Subohming really became mainstream, even starter kits were sold for subohming - much gnashing of teeth on here!

The game changing atty for me was the Steam Crave Aromamizer RDTA, in July 2015. That ended my RDA phase and I've chosen to stick with Aromamizers ever since.

August 2015 - my first dabblings with TC and having to rethink everything I thought I knew about building and wicking.

It all became pretty boring after the TPD and the mad rush to stash away 72mg/ml nic in freezers across the land. I still have enough for 5 more years.

I would think that it's dead easy to start vaping in 2019, a sweet spot for everyone is sitting on a shelf somewhere - the only problem is choice. Good luck with your journey, have fun with it.

@wraith Thank you. I would say that I am struggling with the lack of Throat Hit, I think! See, in all honesty, my main issue is that I actually didn't want to give up Smoking, it's genuinely the only bad habit I have, I don't drink, take drugs etc... I just enjoyed a Cigarette, mainly first thing with my Coffee and then after eating meals, but it's just too costly, obviously horrendous for the health and I am actually noticing a difference in my mood, general well-being and smell, I don't stink of smoke and I can smell it off people now a mile away! So I'm not ready to just give up on the Vape just yet, the one I am using has really helped, I can't complain, but now I feel like I need something a bit more serious in terms of being as close to smoking as possible, I have read that the DL is the way to go for that, and what you've said makes sense, I think I'll give it a go tomorrow and see how I fair. I have a spare MTL if it doesn't go to plan.

@Simon G I am using 18mg E-Liquid, but found myself using the Vape more frequently as the days have gone by, that's probably normal, I understand that, it just feels like I am kind of accustomed to this Vape now and perhaps a change will be good, or simply changing to DL will nip this itch in the bud.

@scrumpox I think given how early I am into using Vape, I am going to persevere with the All In One kits for the time being, I am not quite clued up on what RDA, TPD, RTA, RDTA etc.... all means, still don't know what ohming is either, but have seen it mentioned lots of times, I am going to study this as much as I can in the coming weeks as I am determined to maintain Vaping, instead of reverting back to Cigarettes. I appreciate your response all the same, hopefully one day I'll come back to your reply and be able to give you a coherent response, I am just not at that stage just yet. Very new to all of this.

Thanks folks, really appreciate the responses thus far.

Hi mate. Had an Exceed tank once. The DTL coil wont give a really proper idea of what DTL vaping is really like. It's more an in between vape style. Cross between MTL and DTL. Suppose it may give a hint of what it's like but nothing anywhere near tanks and coils like the Naboo, Plex, Freemax and others. Just so you know, it's not a true DTL experience.

I started with some MTL thing, thought it was the gayest thing ever so I bought some baccy but I also I went to an DTL pen thing and thought it was good, then I bought a smok alien and thought that was even better then I realised I needed a mortgage for the coils I was going through. I then stumped up for the cash for a DNA chipped mod and I never looked back.

If you think you want to replicate the ciggie experience, stick to mtl.

Dtl will do nothing for you... it is a COMPLETELY different style of vaping.

I don't mtl myself but peeps seem to rate the aspire and jac vapour very highly.

On the other hand, maybe dtl is the thing you never knew you wanted!!! (Completly different to smoking a fag tho...)

This is very true. MTL vaping is usually regarded as the best smoking substitute but I could never get on with it and even when I had an MTL tank I realised that I was actually trying to DTL it. Just made more sense to me. It wasn't until I got an RTA that I could really forget about cigs. I think the most important thing is to find something that satisfies you. I never feel like bumming a smoke off anyone outside the pub because I know my big lung full of skittles flavoured happy cloud will be so much better.

You might find you'd like a bit more control over how you are vaping. To keep it simple and jargon-freeish, you are using a fixed wattage device, so it will only fire up at a certain amount of power. I had one of those myself, and its completely fine for what it is. then I bought a innokin kroma which allows you to change how much power you use. I found that turning the wattage up a bit gave me a hotter vape which was a game changer for me, I found it far more satisfying with a better throat hit and 'mouth feel'. It might also be worth trying some different eliquids.

as above, MTL is closer to smoking cigarettes than DL is, but thats not to say you won't prefer it, its just a different thing. I MTL as I can't get on with DL.
