Hi Folks

Total noob question coming up so 1. Forgive my ignorance 2. Pardon my crappy noob lingo and finally 3. I'm sorry if this question has been asked before, I'm still learning the forum navigation and tried to look around but its all a bit new to me.

So assuming the fools pardon, I need help.

First off, a bit of background. I kinda had a bad vaping experience a few years back when I first tried the e cigs. Basically I had an oil leak and breathed it in and had a foul taste to say the least. Now being an ignorant prat, when I hear the word "oil" my mind just thinks of the toxic side of things.

So that's my mind set. I decided to give these things another try and bought my self a new bit of kit yesterday. Its a sub ohm setup with a triton 2 tank. I have it set to 28w for direct to lung cloud type vaping ( I bet you're cringing at my noob terms haha)

Anyway my question is this, when I'm breathing in, I'm feeling hot particles hit my tongue and the back of my throat. Only a few though. My mind is telling me its only hot water particles as it is steam after all (is it?). But I have another side saying, no its actually oil particles and its quite toxic and I'm maybe doing something wrong that is dangerous so I'm holding back a bit mentally. Can someone ease my mind and tell me what is going on there? This question may be so stupid and some of you may be laughing, well, if that's the case, follow my posts as my dumbness knows no bounds lol
Big thanks in advance to any decent folk out there who may be better informed.

Again, newbie apologies if this information is readily available on the forums,

Hi @Boomerang
never appologise for asking questions that you know nothing about as its always best to ask instead of carrying on regardless and then find out weeks later it could be harming you.

firstly its not oil so dont panic about that. heres a quick guide explaining what e liquid is made of
http://vaping360.com/pg-vs-vg-what-is-the-difference-and-what-should-i-use/

the triton 2 is a great little tank which i use every day for my manabush 50vg/50pg backy fix.
the only 2 coils ive used are:
0.5ohm = 40-45w for a direct to lung hit. (i use mine at only 25watts and it gives great flavor).
1.8ohm = 10-13w for a mouth to lung hit. (i use 11watts)
if you are getting hot particle hitting your tongue that is called spit back. it could be caused by a flooded coil (strangely enough this is the one tank i dont get this happen).
you could turn it down slightly and if it still happens what i do can be a bit messy.
close air hole and turn tank upside down. unscrew base and remobe coil and wrap it in a bit of kitchen towel to soak up the excess juice. then put back together and try again.

and once again, if in doubt, ask.

Hi Mrdj and thanks for that great answer. Never being one to be afraid to get a bit messy, I read your instructions and cleaned it all up with the kitchen roll etc but to no avail. I have only gotten the vape, but I knew roughly what I was looking for and I bought five 0.5 ohm spares. I have fitted a new one, and by the time I've finished typing here, the oil will have soaked in and ill know if it has worked.

I don't know if this is relevant, but the ones I have are the Clapton coils. I assume you are familiar with them, they have more windings, like a guitar string apparently. I have read that these heat up more and use more oil. As there are different types of coil wire, could this be a factor?

As to your reply, the "spit back", is that not oil then? Its not really that much, I mean its not like its clogged or anything. I'm just concerned that the particles are that small they may be damaging my lungs. I'm helped by you saying not to worry, id just like to know a bit more. I admit I haven't read your link yet, but that's my next stop.

Annndddddd.... no its still the same. I'm thinking the Clapton wire may be the cause. But my mind is eased somewhat so I'm gonna fire away at it lol.

Thanks again. Ok I'm off to check out that link you fired up.

as i said its not oil and its best not to call it that. its juice or e liquid.
i use the 0.5 clapton coils and as i said mine doesnt spit back.
what make of e liquid are you using and what ratio of VG/PG is it. it should be written on the bottle.
hopefully other can advise better than me as ive not had any issues with these coils or tank so not sure what else to advise.

My guess would be you're not going all out direct to lung and the juice is building up on the coil and spitting.

Take some real deep pulls and see if that clears it.

Ok MrDj. Who said oil??? Not me no way [emoji23] I'm in bed now so I'll check the bottles tomorrow though I think they are 70 vg.

Ment, I did do a few of those deep/fast puffs and it's deffo easing. Ill try and get confident with it tommorrow. As I said in the OP, mentally I'm holding back but with MrDj's advice I'm not afraid of it anymore so my holding back may have been all that was wrong. Back fill lol.
Thanks guys I defiantly have no reservations now. [emoji106]

You can get anti spit back drip tips but they aren't very good imo.
If you are new to sub ohm tanks then you are probably "sucking" it too slowly and maybe for too long. This is a common error. You need to retrain yourself to take a deep intake of breath straight to your lungs.

I couldn't wait to test this further. So I got up and started using it proper and it seems to have gone. Mick, that's all it was. I was afraid to take a good deep breath for the reasons stated at the beginning. But thanks you you guys I'm up n running.

Thanks a lot guys. I'm delighted now

A lot of the confusion on this subject comes from the fact that people who don't know anything look at the juice, see something that isn't water and is sslightly thick and automatically place it in the only other category they can think of which is oil. In truth the PG (Propylene Glycol) and VG (Vegetable Glycerin) are both alcohols (In the chemical sense of the word) an easy test is that Oils are not miscible in water, take a couple of drop of the juice you're using and drop them into water - If they float on the top then they're oil, if they sink and mix in then they're not oil.

Spitback from your atomiser coil, whilst annoying isn't a serious issue it only really becomes an issue if the amount of it becomes unpleasant. There are various strategies for dealing with it, @MrDJ has mentioned one, increasing your power output a little may be another, as may altering your vaping style...

Hi tubby.

As I'm new my replies need verified and take a while to show. I posted that I got it sorted and it's working fine now. As to the oil thing, well I hear you about the pre judgements. However in my case, I just remember people referring to it as oil when they first came out. I guess it kinda stuck. Having done a bit more reading etc I'm quite happy now to blast the arse clean out of it and this has stopped the spitting. So cured for now lol.

I was trying to read about this before I joined here. But you know what googles like! Always better to speak to people in forums. Far more helpful and resourceful IMO [emoji3]
