not tried this one so the basics after a quick google

• 0.3Ω Mesh - RDL 30-40w (Not compatible with Innokin Adept Kit)
• 0.48Ω Plex3D - MTL 13-16w
• 0.5Ω Plexus - MTL 14-19w
• 0.6Ω DuoPrime Dual Mesh - MTL 9-13w
• 0.8Ω Kanthal - MTL 15-18w
• 1.0Ω Kanthal - MTL / RDL 20-25w
• 1.2Ω Kanthal - MTL 10-14w
• 1.6Ω Kanthal - MTL 10-14w

The higher the number the tighter the draw and the lower the wattage.
most mtl coils are best with 50vg/50pg
what make and flavour juice have you been using for years with the bvc coils. if the juice is 50/50 then there is no such thing as non compaable juice if you are using another tank that has mouth to lung coils. yes ive had tanks that are not as flavoursome as others using the same juice and wattage but majority of my tanks are sub ohm direct to lung at higher wattage. over 8 years of only ever using 50watts but lowered it in the last couple of years.
when you tried this new 0.8 coil what wattage are you starting at. coils really need bedding in first so if your going to vape at 12w then start at half 6w and take a few small puffs. you wont get and cloud or flavour but the coil is still heating up and bedding in, then turn up 1w at a time after every couple of puffs until you reach your sweet spot. never trust the recommended wattage written on the coil, its just a guide and for me using 80-100watt coils my go to wattage now is 35-40w.
not sure why its tasting far from pleasurable. what taste are you getting as because its a new tank it could have a little manufacturing oil in it. ive only had one out of 55 tanks like that so ive been lucky.

liquids, all 10ml bottles can have upto 18mg freebase or 20mg nic salts.
shortfills are a different kettle of fish. the majority are 70vg or a handful at 80vg (but you can get some that are 50/50). they come with 50ml zero nic and enough space in a 60ml bottle for 1 18mg nic shot. that will make final ratio of 60ml at 3mg so as you like much higher nic then shortfills wont suit you. actually scrap that, i believe manabush do shortfills that can take higher nicotine strength.
now the newer long fills ive never tried but i believe can be mixed upto 12mg so hopefully someone can advise better than me about them.
hope others can advise further.

This is the juice i use,cheap & cheerful,been using it for a good few years now,i like it,i'm not into vape that tastes like sweeties or puddings,no roll-up i ever smoked tasted like anything other than tobacco,as for the different types or ratings or whatever in these juices.....clueless!

This is what i've used for years in CE5's then BVC's,as i said i've never mixed juices hence i have no idea whatsoever about doing so,i believe this stuff is 50VG/50PG (no advice on the packaging,advice was given by a member on here).

When i first used the Z80 i had the wattage set at 15,the lowest advised for the 0.8 coil,i pre-primed the actual coil before fitting then left it for around 30 minutes after filling the tank,i binned the coil at a puff count of 88,it was acrid,tasted awful,i wasn't aware of 'breaking coils in' at a much lower wattage than recommended,no mention of this in the user manual or anywhere on the net so thanks for that info!,coincidentally the next day i fitted a new coil & used a full tank on 12 -14 watts & it wasn't as bad,still not nice though,i'm thinking it must be the juice hence i'd like to venture into flavoured juice but i'm still confused to hell as to what to use & where to get it,it's all this VG/PG freebase nic salt malarkey that's doing me in,i would like to be able to just buy a decent sized bottle of juice that i could use without mixing & messing around with it,surely there must be stuff out there with 18-20mg nicotine (or stronger!) that i can simply use straight out of the bottle?,i can see this Z80 getting binned soon,i'm starting to regret buying it,never reallised it was going to turn into a complete headf#ck,my life is complicated & stressful enough as it is,the BVC's were trouble free.....so was smoking......

Another thing,what the hell is the voltage setting on the Z80 for?,i can't fathom that out either so i've put it on '1' & left it there!

In the uk the maximum sized bottle with nicotine in it is 10ml max
all larger bottles are nicotine free with enough space for nic shots but these were invented to get around the tpd law change as zero nic was not included in the law change. these were mainly designed for direct to lung so using lower nicotine so in a 50ml bottle there is enough space for one 18mg freebase or one 20mg salts. this will make the final strength 3mg.

coils can be hit and miss and depending where bought. ebay and amazon there are a lot of clones and fakes on their sites. from a real vape shop you should be fine. ive had boxes where 3 or even 4 were duff and lasted half a day then the last coil lasted over 2 weeks.

there is no instructions on breaking coils in at a lower wattage. they tell you that and you coil last longer so they make less money. its years of trial and error that this is common practice now.

Ignore voltage and dont touch it. as you said youve put that on 1 then that could be why your getting a rough taste. if you have changed voltage it might be a good idea to reset the mod to factory mode and reset everything.
stay in wattage mode all the time. also if that mod has TC mode stay away from that as well.
also some mods have 3 settings for strength. soft, normal hard. if your mod has this maybe set it to soft.

freebase is the original nicotine which gives more of a throat hit also enhanced by higher pg so for mouth to lung 50/50
nic salts came in around 5 or 6 years ago. even 20mg has no throat hit and is much smootler on the throat. personally hate the stuff as i vape all day long and after 15 minutes i get a head rush and feel sick. best with much lower wattage and a few puffs now and again and not continuously.

plenty of juice suppliers out there to have a gander through but its a minefield POTV Vendors & Recommended E Liquid Suppliers

Thank you,that's some good pointers there,i'll digest that & persevere,i bought the spare boxes of coils from Vape UK along with the Z80 kit so i'd like to think they're genuine,i gave up buying BVC coils from the bay of plenty because i couldn't trust them after getting way too many duds,the ones i was buying from reputable dealers were mainly ok,i'm still using the BVC's,they're fine & handy to have in your pocket whilst out & about,i spend a lot of time in the sticks & on the hills to keep my freezers stocked so the less i have in my pockets the better.

I think it`s fair to say that the advances that have been made in vape kit and juices has been driven by vapers demanding improved delivery, be that flavour or consistency or versatility, I`ve only scanned your thread but it seems to me that you`re trying to get tip top performance out of out dated kit.
If you`ve ever got satisfaction out of your chosen juice it should be possible to replicate and even surpass that, but you may need to let your old gear go and invest in say a pod, there are some crackers about.
