Your RTA should not be getting hot at 13W.

In addition to the airflow, the juice being fed through the cotton also keeps things cool. If a wick is too loose it will not be in sufficient contact with the coil, parts of the coil can glow red hot because it isn't getting a sufficient supply of juice - it can hotspot and overheat which makes things hot (and you generally get bad flavour to go with the heat problem).

I think the overheating is directly related to your wicking issue, sort out the wicking and the spitting and hot tank problem should go away.

Personally I would stick with 50/50 for MTL as I think 70/30 can be a bit too thick for most MTL tanks, unless the weather gets really hot.

Ok so I coiled with a Clapton that came in the box with it this time. And used more cotton (I think). Thinned it out but it gets really hot again only after a few puffs. There is a bit less spitback and gurgling but I barely get any flavour + it literally burns my lips. What am I doing wrong? :17:

You need to put the coil in line with the airflow and a few millimetres of a gap, the coil is too low and too near the posts.

What @John R said.

The air needs to hit the very bottom of the coil so it runs around both sides - that looks like the airflow will just hit the very edge of the coil, and the rest of the coil will get nothing. And yes, your coil is too low.

Yep, I concur with the previous posts, longer legs should do the trick.

My Dad has two MD's and they seem to be quite forgiving, but make sure you use the three dot airflow orientation/insert, he got a bit of leaking when he used the slot.

Just need pulling out over the 2 airflow slots and raising a bit as already said. Your cotton actually looks ok it's just positioning of the coil that needs work.

Right guys, so after the build I did last night (the pics I posted) it was spitting and getting really hot. Well I picked it up this morning and been vaping with no issues - spitback, gurgling and overheating is gone. Did a magical vape-ghost visit my flat at night to fix it? I dunno lol but I still barely get any flavour out of it. Will try changing position of coil and report back. Thank you all for tips

Okay, I managed to get the coil in center with the airflow and wicked properly. No spitbacks, gurgling or heating so thanks for all the tips guys. I'm not too sure about the flavour though - same liquids I vaped in stock coils seemed really sweet in stock coils but on this RTA there is barely any sweetness - for me it's actually better as hated the sweet juices but it just makes me wonder if that's how RTAs are in general or is there still something wrong with my wicking?

I also need another tip on how to unscrew the base from the glass. I might have overtightened it and cannot unscrew it what so ever now. Oops
