What's new

1st wicking attempt, any good?

Love the wool placement!

Nah that's not bad mate, just needs a little tidying up and tucking in a bit and you'll be sweet.

Done several rewicks since @Faceteeth! Really enjoying the Doggystyle that @rew lent me...such nice little performer this one..but a bit fiddly to set up, with my oversized cumbersome hands alas! :D

I found wicking in general a bit of a pain in the arse at first because I'm really heavy handed. Practice is key mate. I'm still learning now and I've been building for about 4 years lol

Well fortunately..i have patience in spades...but not deft hands!

You'll get there mate honestly. I've been through a load of tanks over the years until I've found a few which I can build and wixk every time and they've become my go to tanks.

Once you can successfully wick one tank without fail, the rest will follow.

Oddy enough (and this depends on the tank), i do find wicking easier to do than making a coil...but then again..i've made one good one so far!

Keep practicing those coils. You got a coil jig didn't you?

Yes i have now..thanks to Coolie27. Still getting to grips with how it's meant to be used. I found that was easier just using the handle & rod bit...and not bother with those spinny things that go on the end of the rods..too fiddly! Easier to use a thumb on the wire and rod!

^^This. I find a screwdriver shaft, or simple coil jig much easier than trying to use the thing thats meant to wind it round. I always end up with the wire coiling on top of itself with them.

It's a bit like that thing of patting one's head whilst rubbing one's tummy! You'd have to have a bit of skill using those spinny wire twisters bits. Too much faff...so much quicker winding them manually.
