my experience is that a lot of the stuff is "as good as"...and some items arent so good, but if you have some time, are bored or whatever your personal circumstances are, to fiddle with it, then there is big savings.
the company carries many product lines by many different manufacturers, so you cant really make a blanket statement like "ft is rubbish", because a heck of a lot of stuff there is genuine items...and a heck of a lot of stuff is clones.
What doesnt happen, is them trying to sell a clone at a price equivalent to a genuine item, so if the price is very low, its a clone, and you buy it knowing that.
My strategy is, high value items (uk) I can buy on ft for less, just read the reviews, study the pictures, decide if that is what you want or not.
low value items (<£10) I'll buy from uk...evods and so on. I dont need 50 that are so-so when 5 that are good will work for me.
What you DO find on FT is items that are low value, that you cant find in stock in the Uk easily, i.e. battery shrink wrap, funky tweezers, awesome rubiks cubes and yoyo's, arduino development boards and shields and so on
So I'll buy from them what I need that is over $10 in value, then always add a new novelty items to bring it up to $20 or $25 or so..that way when vapemail comes there is also something interesting in the packet to smile at.
like going to the shops for bread, and getting some sweets while you are there....buy what you decide to buy, but dont pass up the chance to add something weird that isnt readily available in the uk..if you are getting stuff posted from china, then you may as well have a few items instead of just one.
the site has a very handy "wishlist" feature, and you can name your wishlists for easier reference...and add all items to your basket at once...so e.g. i had a "sons xmas wishlist" going this year, where i kept adding items to the list....then a few weeks ago i went to the list, pruned off any duplicates, and just clicked "buy" and all items were in my cart....worked really well for me to keep track of presents
and be patient. it does take its sweet time
