Building tools: Should I buy a kit or piecemeal?

To op, if you want to just buy a kit. You don't need to get the one with the ohm reader as your mod will read the ohms well enough and there are plenty kits out there with the basics and the coil winder in them.

they are mostly all i’ve ever used for wrapping coils. occasionally a 2.5mm drill bit if i want a bigger one.

Aye they're good for MTL coils, better than the wee winder tools that graduate imo. I just find them everywhere in my stash as you seemed to get them with every tank a while back.

I just used what I already had to hand at first then individual items as and when I thought needed/usefull.
id suggest buying a small kit to start as I ended up buying everything in the kit anyway apart from ohm meter I just use a mod to read coils.

I can only speak of my experience, I bought all of my tools individually. I have the Coil Master 521 Tab and have no trouble at all with it and I have used it for the last 4+ years. It isn't just an Ohm reader, it is a very stable platform for building, installing, and testing your coils. You don't need a pair of wire cutters, a pair of toenail clippers will do nicely. I also picked up a pair of scissors at a discount tool store and have also used them for years. I have wrapped my coils around a 2.5mm machine screw and have gotten great simple spaced .5Ω coils. If my Coil Master broke today, I would not hesitate to replace it. I know I can test the coils on my mod, however, using the Tab as a platform to me is very important.

Hey, sorry for being away and didn't intend to make this a hit-and-run post. Had a lot going on, after Thanksgiving, and it took me a few days to catch up. I did finally order the tools last night and wanted to provide an update.

So my plan was to buy the Coil Master Coiling Kit v4 and then buy the necessary tools from there. The cheapest price I found was about $15 shipped. Then I happened to find an older version of the full Coil Master Kit on eBay for $27 shipped: https://www.ebay.com/itm/DIY-Tools-...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2648

As you can see, it has an older ohm meter and not the Tab 521. I had planned on buying a ohm reader that also charges the battery via micro usb, so that wasn't an issue. So basically for $12 more, I added the necessary tools to the coiling kit and the carry case. I'll upgrade the tools along the way but this will get me started.

I noticed the eBay seller for the kit is registered in China even though the listing states shipping from the US, so I was a little hesitant about that. I did already get my tracking number today though and will update again, when it's received. If it's as advertised, this might be a good deal for any other new builder following this thread so I'll definitely keep you posted.

the reader in mine hard shorted and melted itself, the scissors were kinda blunt and the tweezers broke (kinda my fault) and the snips fell apart

Hey John, I saw in another thread that you got one of those USA ohm meters from a UK vendor. I tried like hell to locate one in the states but they're OOS and they stopped making them. Would have bought one, if the shipping didn't take to long to reach me hear.
