Cloudchasing advice

Right then, I have vaped for over a year, progressed through most things, and completely confident building coils etc and setting up devices, my kayfuns & nemesis are the ADV and i have a few smaller drippers for some intense flavour.

But now to add to my collection I have a Castle RDA as I have been looking in envy of some of the clouds people blow in some of the reviews. Just for fun I want to do that! Not something I'mm gonna do all the time as mostly I'm all for flavour and mouth to lung.

Ok so I want your best advice to get a small weather system going in my front room (till the mrs gets home anyway).

My first build was dual micros, .32mm kanthal, 12 wraps each giving me 0.8ohm. Using the largest dual hole option on the castle. Although impressive to me, it doesn't give me the thick cloudy look I keep seeing. Plenty of vapour but I'm missing the creamy thickness. Also I'm not loving the heat up lag of dual micros at this ohm.

So please, best coil advice, not really wanting the hassle of a quad coil build though.
Is dual micros best, or a really low ohm dual standard coil?

In my kit I have .32, .25 .20 kanthal (and some twisted .20).
I have 1mm, 1.2, 1.4, 1.8 & 2.4mm screwdrivers for wrapping around.
Also pretty much all sizes silica, ekowool, cotton wool and yarn.

I have Sony VTC4's so safety and low ohm is not a problem, and I perfectly understand all the risks.
Ohms and shorts etc will be checked out on the vamo first. It reads all ohms, just doesn't fire them.

0 nic, very high VG, deep lung hits and get down to 0.3ohms...because the Vamo will only read to one decimal point what registers as 0.2ohm could be 0.15ohm (I've no idea how the Vamo rounds the numbers up or down). You'd be best to get an ohmmeter that reads to two decimal places for accuracy and safety.
Raguri does this a lot, but then he's a bit funny in the head.

Yeah a proper ohm reader is on the next shopping list. May just get rid of the vamo after as that's all it really gets used for these days.

All my juices are vg luckily but I hear you on the 0nic. Lowest I've got is a 12mg and that knocked me for six with a lung hit.

Is the low ohm a necessity then for clouds? Don't most juices just taste burnt at 0.3?

Hey Nicknak
Right, I was actually going to make a thread on this last night, as I've also had a fellow vaper ask about my setup.

What you need:
A mechanical mod, with a very VERY low voltage drop (Something with copper pins is ideal, as long as it's high grade copper... Basically, get a pinoy mod, or a copper nemesis and upgrade the pins!)
You already have the rda, so learn it! Learn the airflow, how it effects the vape, it's quirks and charms... All RDAs have their own charm. My Igo W, is lovely to use, but harder to build on than the trident clone. However, my trident clone doesn't have the airflow for serious clouds, so anything under 0.4ohms, to me, is too hot to direct lung inhale.
Whilst high VG is good for clouds, there is a problem with it... It is much, MUCH thicker, which can cause you to instinctively cough. At first, stay to 50/50, then gradually get higher in VG :). Plus, it burns much, much faster. So be careful for dry hits!
Whilst 0mg is easier, I'm happy on 6mg as long as I don't over do it :P for videos, I use 0 as they usually take a couple of takes.
Batteries: You already have these... So this part is irrelevant. BUT, get a multimeter, or a tankometer, and keep an eye on the voltage. Soon you will be able to tell when they hit a certain voltage. I KNOW when my batteries are at 3.6v, and swap them out asap.

Build wise... This will be close to mine (I use 0.27), which comes out at roughly 0.3-0.35 ohms (My ohm reader's being dodgy... need to get a new one).
Take one long bit of 0.25 kanthal, and twist it. Tightly. as tightly as possible.
Then, wrap 2 coils of 3 wraps each over 2 bits of 3mm silica.
Make sure it's pretty tight on their!
Now, put that in and vape away :)
Just make sure the airflow is all the way open.

The rule of "The more airflow you have, the less flavour" is bullshit to be honest. BUT, if you have more airflow, you need a lower ohm to fill the air you're inhaling with tasty vapour! Simple really. It's like flooring a car. If you can't provide the fuel (The vapour), it'll be slower (Less flavour and clouds) :)

Any questions, feel free to ask mate, always willing to help a fellow cloudy

Top response, big +1 here.

Multimeter is a must have as they are usually more accurate once you account for the internal resistance by holding the probes together at the top and let the reading settle.

Imo I prefer the organic cotton wool wicking to silica or yarn but that's me.

The best thing to do is experiment with what works for you. As long as you are keeping within the parameters of the equipment you will be creating living room weather systems of your own very soon.

I can't use cotton, I can taste it. But, if you're starting off cloud chasing, it's better to start on silica.
Inhaling a dry burn on silica, is much MUCH safer for you than inhaling burned cotton ;)

Well I ordered a proper ohm meter earlier from stealth vape so hopefully be here Saturday. For reading the volts I have been using the vamo and/or the xtar vp1. I was getting quite good with knowing my batteries on a standard build in my kayfun but guess this would be a whole new experience.

Got it a brass stingray ready to ship from fasttech but that could be ages, it's waiting for the drip tip.

Thanks for the in depth set up Raguri. Will be trying it out Saturday but the nemesis will have to do for now. When you mentioned the wrapping using 2x 3mm bits of silica it's just one 3mm per coil yeah?

Nope, 2x3mm strands.
So, either cut two shortish strands, or 1 strand and fold it over.
Trust me, if you try and cloud chase on a single strand of 3mm, you're gonna have a bad time.

Yeah guess that would dry out far too fast thinking about it. I'm generally cotton only but you right a dry hit on silica is much better than burnt cotton.

Been watching a couple of videos of people using a single nano coil wrapped around a paper clip reading around .8ohm. Calling it a dragon coil. Just resting it on a bed of cotton with some over the top too but leaving the coil still half exposed, Jesus that seems to kick out some vapour! May try that tomorrow till the ohm meter comes and I get my drill back to make the twisted wire you use.
