Is SS316L still the go to wire for both standard builds and TC?

I'm not denying that you can tell a difference- I'm just saying for me a coil that has the same surface area against the cotton that can use a thinner wire and less power tastes the same to me.
What do you find tastes better, like does it bring out different flavour notes? I used fancy coils for a long time years ago until I returned to standard coils, I can get a similar vape at 25-30W instead of needing like 80-110 Watts so found the battery life saving to be a big factor.


Where I have been out of the loop for so long I don't believe I own anything that can do mesh- wait does mesh need a special RDA or RTA I can't remember?
So unless I buy a great mesh RTA to use it will be standard coils for now.

I see, I wonder if they make one like the Kylin Mini, as out of about literally 100 tanks and RDA's (granted some of these are multiples or I bought clones to compare to the original) I do by far remember that being my favourite.

In fact, I found some of my SS316L and went to build a coil for it, but unfortunately have lost one of the M4 grub screws to hold the coil in place. I am hoping that inside of my ottoman (remember I have to move 44 mods off the top to get inside lol) I have the box and it has a spare in.

I remember at one point the Subtank mini was also a firm favourite, even though the RBA to build on that was fiddly as hell- where you had to trap the wire under the screw it would always pop loose as you was tightening it up, so you had to have it bang on to work.

This is all bringing back memories, and I want to use some of my other mods now

I am finding some great stuff going through my old bits! Tanks like the Billow V3 I believe, Aromamizer RDTA's (one with a velocity style deck one with a 3 pole deck, one 3ML one 6ML), velocity RDA's, the mad hatter one of my old favourites, some RTA that looks like a crius on steroids by vaporesso, a few Crius's, the serpent mini RTA which unfortunately is missing glass, and even some of the old bottom fill RTA's that begin with the letter G but I forget which word haha, it has the airflow control as a little slit underneath the glass.

I have loads to go through that I can use, I just want the simplest though. The tank by vaporesso has what looks to be a fresh build in that is yet to be wicked, lets try and get the coils glowing evenly and test it. Only thing is I remember the juice flow control on that tank- it can really drink the juice being a dual coil tank aimed at higher power use.

I wish I had an M4 grub screw for the Kylin mini RTA as that thing is a piece of piss to build on and wick.

Unfortunately none of my other tanks use this size of screw to my knowledge, I believe it is an M4 sized screw. I will look through what I am finding and see if I can find something, as the most popular size of screw I can find that I tried is too small

OK, the last time I checked was when I was going through my mental health issues, and I was sure a screw was missing.

I just opened the tank as it needs a clean, and there is clearly two allen key screws in the RTA, so I can clean it up and use it

No idea why my memory told me a screw was missing and this was why I couldn't use it, but I am quite happy I now can.

your looking at it a bit to simply, a good complex coil holds liquid within inside itself that creates more surface area and vapourisation. You can use less power with them if you keep the mass down. Dripping on a good complex coil is nice as the liquid just gets sucked in instantly saturating the coil and cotton inside it.
A well made coil will last many months, it's my hobby that i really enjoy so I just try to get best out of it as I can, with some of juices I'm using nowadays.
The only time I wind a roundwire is for MTL rtas like the picatini, though most times for MTL I use 30x2/40 fused Claptons as I'm a bit looser draw with a bit more power.
Not trying to be argumentative it's just my personal experience so far.

No man I didn't take that as you being argumentative at all, its nice to have a good adult discussion without either side getting upset isn't it!

Yes you are correct that a complex coil also holds liquid, which does indeed lead to more surface area for vaporisation. All I am getting at is that I don't really get the benefit from it (I will admit my sense of smell, so taste is effected from my years of being addicted to coke, so if that was better maybe I could tell the difference) so just stick to building simple coils that need less power to run.

I'm glad you really enjoy making the coils, what do you build and do you sell them? As I would like a good bit of cloud chucking fun- see I am not completely against more complex coils lol.

Regarding a coil lasting months, that is quite amazing. I don't think I have ever managed that long on any coil- how often do you clean them and how often do you rewick? Also how exactly do you clean them to make them last so long, I am genuinely interested.

This thread has caught my interest, I once had one of Reggies` coils in one of my rda`s for the best part of a year, in the end I moved on from the rda but iirc the coil is still in there. I tried all the usual ways of coil maintenance as a learning exercise and found the best way was to glow the coil to a dull cherry red over a gas ring followed by quenching, drying, a quick brush with an interdental brush then finish with a blast of compressed air. Not worth all the arsing, just buy/make a new coil.
