What's new

Is SS316L still the go to wire for both standard builds and TC?

This thread has caught my interest, I once had one of Reggies` coils in one of my rda`s for the best part of a year, in the end I moved on from the rda but iirc the coil is still in there. I tried all the usual ways of coil maintenance as a learning exercise and found the best way was to glow the coil to a dull cherry red over a gas ring followed by quenching, drying, a quick brush with an interdental brush then finish with a blast of compressed air. Not worth all the arsing, just buy/make a new coil.
Wow seriously a year? Unfortunately mine is a electric stove so I can't do that, I would have to glow them cherry red on the mod then dump them into water before brushing.
Well it depends, how much did the coils cost you and what type of coil were they?

Ive got a little pot in the downstairs bath room that i fill with water, dry burn off the dirty coil then hold the mod upside down glow the coil let go of fire button and dunk the coils in the water, flick the excess water into sink, pulse the coils till dry, repeat the glow and dunk till they look like brand new when dry.
This blasts all the crap off and out of the coil.
Doesnt take that long and keeps my nice handmade coils going for months and months. This is with Ni80/Ni90 coils your mileage may vary with SS

I just glow the coils and then run under the cold tap, I suppose using a cup of water would let you see how much crap comes off

I am totally MTL and mainly use single wire coils, the good thing about single wire builds is you can junk the coil when it's gunked. I use the Daedalus when making complex coils. I did them for friends that live local but not made any coils for near on 18 months. I do like a Clapton now and then and buy small batches on Ali Express.

I use a little translucent pot fill it to the brim with water, hold it at eye then dunk the coils in.
When you quench dip gunked up coils, you see all the crap shoot off into the water.
This might be more awkward with some atomizers, I've yet to a have problem doing it and your back to to having a fresh build after, I really only do it with Ni80 coils dont have much experience with SS.
