Glasgow 2014: E-cigarettes banned from all venues
*sigh*
So far be it from me to tell the organisers how to run a sporting event, but, if you are going to ban something at least use valid reasons for doing so. This article is just bad in so many places.
look like cigarettes due to the emitted vapour? Really? I'll half concede that point, provided that the observer is far away, and outdoors. Though I suspect "looks like smoking" was the sentence you were actually going for there.
How you get from that to health campaigners claim ... normalise smoking to children? Do you have kids? I don't but I have 4 gorgeous nieces I spend a fair amount of time with. Kids are NOT stupid. Cigarettes look different, they smell different, e-cigs do not "normalise" smoking to children, they normalise NOT smoking.
Also people can claim anything, I can claim that the moon is made of goose fat, it doesn't mean I'm right about it, and a lazy reporter might report my claim in an article they wrote, my claim is still rubbish but if you make claims in news articles that sound plausible, and have the air of authority to them (as an aside just how well qualified IS a "health campaigner" anyway?) but are badly wrong then you're not doing anyone any favours.
e-cigs ARE REGULATED. Just because there is no specific regulation targeted at e-cigs, it doesn't mean they aren't regulated. (If we repeat this enough times will it ever sink in?)
e-cigs have not been proven to be safe, that kind of depends on how you define safe. e-cigs have been proven to be many times safer (about 100x safer) than smoking tobacco, and they absolutely HAVE been proven effective.

[e-cigs]Many look like cigarettes due to the vapour that is emitted, leading health campaigners to claim they continue to normalise smoking to children.

Public health minister Michael Matheson said: “I welcome this, as e-cigarettes are not regulated, nor have they been proven to be safe and effective.”
