Got to ask but what gauge & type of wire are you using that you're managing to melt, because that takes some serious wattage.

As a guide use Steamengine to calculate resistance.

As I said I like the flat wire not sure what gauge it is but when I am cleaning the coil and dry burning is when it happens.

You only need 20-25w to dry burn. Thickness of wire is on the spool expressed as **AWG or 0.3 (or whatever) mm. You need this info to safely make coils.

Also you need to know what wire type, SS316L, Kanthal etc.

Are you dry burning your coils at 50w? You can do it at much less than that, and you'll be fine.
