Coronavirus UK Daily Statistics

Then why is the UK quoting 20k when it could be closer to 40k ?
They're being crystal clear that they're stating deaths in hospitals. And they will soon include care home deaths.

They've never said only 20k have died.

I think North Korea shut their borders completely and very early on so could be true.
North Korea was closed to outsiders for years. It's only real contact was via China who it trades with & China restrictions would have prevented cross border traffic, or at least reduced it.

The coronavirus pandemic has already caused as many as 41,000 deaths in the UK, according to a Financial Times analysis of the latest data from the Office for National Statistics.

That does include all excess deaths over the period.
It is assuming that all extra deaths above the average are caused by the pandemic even if they were not caused by the virus.

It depends what you want the numbers for as to whether adding these numbers together is a good idea.

If you want to know what stage of the pandemic we are at, it is not such a good idea.

If you want to measure the scale of human suffering or you just want a bigger number for your news story then it is a good idea.

The main advantage of the hospital death figures is they are easier to compile and are available sooner, so show up trends quicker while you wait weeks for accurate figures from non hospital deaths.

It is fairly common in other countries as well, so makes comparisons easier.

The non hospital death figures do come out and are in no ways hidden. I have certainly looked at graphs on the bbc showing the difference between the hospital deaths and the total deaths from all locations.

I'd like to know please.

We passed the current. peak about twelve days ago, since then the numbers in intensive care have been going down slowly, the daily numbers in hospital is also slowly trending down. Probably less clear that things are improving in care homes.

Seems like some sort of slightly better news, one has to remember the peak was artificially induced? Hence, the concern about a 2nd, 3rd or more peaks occurring?

When they put up the 20k figure a lot of people will read that like a newspaper headline
They will see the 20k and not read any further
I think it is being manipulated to make it seem it is a lower death count than it actually is.
This is just my opinion and i admit i could be way off the mark.

That's fine.

If people choose to ignore the endless stream of information that they're being bombarded with from every angle imaginable around the clock then that's their prerogative. But that issue is with the individual who chooses to ignore the relevant data and not the data itself or the data source.

I watched the news not half an hour ago. The anchor once again spelled out it was hospital deaths only and not counting deaths outside the hospital setting. They've spelled it out endless times before and will continue to spell it out for those who listen.
