And it’s China - they live in such close proximities in the cities - can you imagine how it must rip through a population there? TerrifyingWe've also got to remember how it was reported from China.
I remember seeing the news of them building a vast new hospital in a matter of days but don't remember giving that much thought.
Disease breaks out but they appered to get hold of it very quickly and what appeared to be relatively easily.
They had experience with this sort of thing but we didn't.
I remember that.As soon as i saw some Chinese folks getting welded into their homes i knew something was up.
See I understand your point Rickster - for me I reckon the fact we are an island is exactly why it’s got so bad.I thought we are an Island, no land borders we might do ok...... the herd immunity cost us.

I agree with that. If you look at SARS - only 4 cases are recorded for the UK. I do believe a lot of the Western countries thought this would be similar at first. We forgot we have a lot more travel, and a lot more to do with China, than back then.Fear does seem to be a relevant factor.
You can see here that the Asia/Pacific countries report more fear than Europe or the Americas

You can look on the same site for how much these populations trust their governments.
Fear of the virus and trust in the government are both related to compliance with rules and lower transmission.
There are so many factors at play that there are no easy comparisons.
