My grandad was also an Austin/Rover nut. A10’s, a mini and a few metros. My first car was a metro 1.4s too, and I went on to have a couple of Rover 45 diesels. No trouble off any of them either [emoji1744]

I was a Taxi Driver for 25 years Chris, as you know, the best car I had in that time was a Montego 2.0 Diesel with the Perkins engine, put 380,000 miles on the clock, and never had a day off the road in it !!! I had another Montego and a couple of Rovers, and never had any problems with any of them !!!

That Perkins engine was awesome. They still fit the guts from that lump to forklifts even now. And I remember the montegos and maestros too. Great engine on the turbo diesel, quick too, but rusty when they left the showroom.

I didn’t used to live a million miles away from longbridge. I remember seeing all the cars almost abandoned in muddy fields in 2004 when they went under. It was very sobering.

(I also should’ve bought an MGZS V6 at the £4K they were selling them at, but hindsight is a wonderful thing!)

If I'm honest it didn't look that pretty when I had it ................ it needed painting and the grille at the front was made of chicken wire.
