Dental Health and Vaping

This bit stands out for me "They found that the e-cigarette vapour (with or without nicotine) was able to change the way the bacteria grow, by increasing volume and the area covered by the bacteria, which can lead to infections if untreated."

By untreated, do they mean lack of toothbrush usage.

I worry about mine a bit, i have a crowned tooth right at the front, at the top. My wisdom teeth have been coming thru and pushing all my teeth towards it and putting pressure on the crown.

Anyway, it feels like there's a small gap at the back of my crown, and im constantly paranoid of the vapour getting up in and under the crown.

A trip the dentist is deffo required as soon as i stop being a fanny and pluck up the courage to make an appointment.

But id much rather prefer vaping to the damage to your teeth/gums that smoking causes. I remember when i smoked id get bleeding gums quite frequently, not at all since i started vaping.

When they looked at groups of people that switched from smoking to e-cigarettes and former smokers, they found their microbiota to be very similar

Gram negative bacteria, which are typically considered the “bad microbes”, were common between smokers and e-cigarette users.

Sounds like a bit of a non-story to me, it's not hard to imagine that people who neither smoked or vape have better gum condition, especially as most vapers are ex-smokers. What's the story here?

Breaking News: People that drink sugary tea or cola all day have worse teeth than people who only drink water. :19:

Top way to put it into perspective.

Oh lord. You need to read the abstract for the study. This is anti vaping propaganda, disguised as a study.

Why do you say that? Genuine question.

True, it's not. But I for one would like to be aware of the relative harm of each one and how they stack up in comparison to one another. I wasn't aware that vaping had any negative effects on oral helath beyond the nicotine intake, and if it does, I want to know about it.

I think the first sentence gives t away.

You could be right. I just see it as adding context and trying to make the study sound relevant. As long as the science is sound that doesn't indicate to me that the whole study is av prop.
