Dry hit vs burnt hit

So, this is my first post here, I've been vaping for about a month.
From what I gather, and I'm not sure if I'm correct, the internet seems to be confused about dry hits and burnt hits.

For example, a dry hit is often described as a burning taste, really nasty, and it's explained as burning your cotton. But if you burn your cotton then your coil or cotton is pretty screwed, right?

Then, people also talk of chain-vaping, or using too much cotton, causing dry hits, and it see just seems to be something that happens every so often, and you either adjust your cotton, or don't chain-vape so much, and just go on vaping with no burned cotton.

I think I've experienced both, and I'm wondering if I am correct in saying that a dry hit is best described as a taste of hot empty vape with little to no flavour, and your vape suddenly stops making that light crackling and popping sound, and the vapor gets hotter.

While a burned hit is when you actually burn the cotton, and it gives you an actual burned taste, really nasty, and maybe sore on the throat, and your cotton is screwed, and the taste of burning lingers, and mutes the taste from the cotton, for good. Meaning you have to change your coil or cotton.

Does this sound correct?

Hello and welcome [emoji106]
Dry hit no eliquid on cotton

Burnt hit coil and cotton need changed

Thanks for the confirmation!
I think I also sometimes experience half-dry hits, if that makes sense, like the cotton drys out halfway through a drag. But come to think of it, this is most likely how the majority of dry hits happen, right?

I got a Zeus Dual a few days ago, my first rta, and I was getting bad popping and oversaturated cotton for the first day or two, I think I wasn't using enough cotton. I freaked myself out by watching too many videos, with people saying you shouldn't use too much cotton in the Dual. Of course, being my first rta, I didn't know what "too much" meant.

So, I loaded up with cotton and I sometimes get dry hits now.
I'll get the balance right fairly soon, but to be honest I'd prefer the odd dry hit, than having crap spitting and popping everywhere..

The first few loud pops when you begin vaping can really scare the shit out of you!

Poppings fine, funny as f**k watching the cat run up the walls :rotflmao:
RTAs are a learning curve, the more times you wick the more feel you get for what's going to work etc. Even with new gear I rarely get dry/burnt hits, normally me forgetting to readjust the power :banghead:. Mesh on the other hand can sneal up & smack you in the lungs & throat but you get a feel for the vape. The Profile is great but as soon as that vape goes the slightest cool I'm pumping the squonk bottle like a fool. The Unity is more forgiving being a tank not RDA so less likely to give dry/burnt hits as long as wicking is consistent.

Yea, I've made my cats run a few times now, once by blowing into a flooded coil and spraying hot juice out of the air vents!

Nice to know about the Unity, I've got one in the post, it should arrive next week sometime, so I'll keep it in mind. I'm interested to see how mesh works compared to coils. I also have a Juggerknot on the way too. So I think I'll be better able to learn by using different tanks to figure out common themes, and the nuances of each, etc.

The worst throat and lung experience I've had with vaping was my very first pull ever, I really horsed into it, and I was coughing and crying for about 10 minutes!

Got two of each so if you get stuck just shout. The Unity does need shedloads of wick but also needs it cutting right. Wrong & it'll dry hit/flood but get it right & it's brilliant. Plenty of vids about & Wotofo Fan club FB group is a good source too.

Nice one. Yea, I think I saw a video about wicking the Unity and I remember thinking there being a lot of cotton involved.

You have two of the same tanks?
Buying vaping accessories is pretty addictive alright, I've already got 4 tanks and 2 mods, and about 20 bottles of juice. And an Aegis Legend, and those two other tanks, and a joblot of 30 bottles on the way..
And I'm still scouring ebay for other random stuff.. lol

This terrible disease is what we call 'shinyitus' sometimes it can be curbed for a bit when skint or have found a good few setups but then it does come back

Re the profile unity this is a decent wicking tutorial by one of our fellow members

I am not at liberty to reveal exactly what I have as the bank manager may be a member but I will admit to having one or two bits :D
