E Cig Legislation - Chris Davies Email - Clearing the confusion

Thanks joebo, some clarification at last!

Refillable tanks and the two year report

The legislation requires the European Commission to report back in two years on the safety of refillable cartridges. That doesn’t mean they are being phased out after two years, it means there will be a discussion. It will give time for manufacturers to demonstrate the safety of their products.

More information on safety is better than less and vapers will want to know if the products they use are safe or not.

Banning certain products

A lot of people have claimed that if three countries ban refillable cartridges they will be banned everywhere. This is not true.

If three countries can prove that there is a safety risk with a particular type or brand or cartridge then the European Commission can adopt measures to ban it. BUT, this will only apply to the specific product, not to all of them, AND the European Parliament has the right to veto any such ban.

Eliquid concentrations

There will be a ban on liquids containing a higher concentration of nicotine than 20mg/ml and a ban on having more than 2ml of liquid in an e-cig. That means there will be a maximum of 40mg (20mg/ml x 2 ml) in any one e-cig.

There will also be a limit of 10ml liquid in any one refill bottle but no limit on the number of bottles you can buy.

How can they put a ban on how much juice I put in my atomizer?

That's a great concise read, thank you joebo

The things that get my attention as a consumer then are the 2ml device limit and the 20mg/ml concentration limit. I'm still wondering what impact this has on purchasing nicotine solutions for self-mixers. I'm gradually getting my head round all this stuff.

so we can buy 10ml bottles but not put more than 2ml in our "ecigs"
they really are clueless as I can get 5ml in my taifun :lol1:

It means us mixers are screwed. We can only buy 10ml bottles of 20 mg nic base, we have to make what we can with that, which isn't feckin much. Plus the price will be to expensive to be worth the hassle. might as well buy premix. Or break the law! I know what I'm doing. Oh, get ready for the sin tax on nic juice, now it's become a tobacco product. (unless I read it wrong)

this is what seems the critical part and will be a huge bane of contention

so lets break that down. 20mg nic content.. ok fair enough i would say that in general most vapers are use 18mg and under though some may start at 24mg 20 isnt the end of the world.
the 10ml limit is going to have a huge impact on costs. i very rarely by 10ml now normally 30 and 50ml bottles. sure i can get 5 x 10ml but this will drive prices up with costs of the actual bottles.
a maximum 2ml in any one ecig.
again this is going to be a a very tricky one.. the only way i can see them able to implement this is to ban tanks larger than 2ml so other than drippers and the likes of ce5's this is going to mean RSST, Kraken, Ithaka, any gensis tank, Russian , Kayfun and the rest will all be banned.

seems one way or another they are determined to regulate what we intake and how much all at a cost.. and for those that already own 3,4 5ml or bigger tanks are we going to get the tank police stop us in the street and take a liquid content measurement to see if we are within the legal limits?

Do they tell us how many cigs we can smoke a day or buy? no.. this is exactly the same thing, dictating to us what level we are allowed.. total crock of shit in my view and yet again the fight starts

Yup - a crock of shit. Don't see how they can avoid that argument, unless they start to limit the amount of nic in ciggies/cigars/pipe baccy etc

EDIT: Hmm I see the limit is because:

These are safety measures. A spoonful of concentrated nicotine could kill a child and restrictions of some kind were inevitable.

hmmm
