Hi guys,

I'm in a bit of a quandary and wonder if any of you can help me with it - my Expromizer V1.4 tastes very weird.
.
It's got a horribly metallic, oily taste that I can't get rid of despite any amount of cleaning and after several re-wicks I'm at a loss.

At first I thought it was just residue left over from the manufacturing process so I gave it a good scrub in the ultrasonic cleaner but to no avail. I've since cleaned it twice more.

I've tried 3.00mm ID and 2.5mm ID builds in it, with 26awg and 28awg SS316L wire, and a variety of cottons in various amounts and shapes, all with no effect.

The only thing I've learned is not to wick it according to the manual and just to gently place the cotton on the deck inside of the collar instead of screwing the collar over it in the channels. This just chokes the cotton, giving dry hits and laboured wicking. Laying the cotton on the deck works perfectly and it wicks just fine. There have been no dry hits or saturation issues with the second method at all.

This is a really weird situation because otherwise the tank is perfect. It's genuinely the smoothest and quietest vape I've ever had. I'm absolutely in love with it in every other respect.

It's as smooth as butter, has no spitting or gurgling, it's practically inaudible and the throat hit is amazing. In all honesty it's probably the nicest tank I've even vaped, which just leaves me so perplexed.

How can something so perfect taste so bad?

The only thing I can think of now is trying bigger airflow inserts or adjusting the coil height, but if neither of these work, I'm completely stumped.

Has anyone else ever faced something similar or have any other ideas what might be happening?

Maybe it's just the newness of it and it will wear off?

I am assuming you change O Rings? Machine Oil can ruin an O Ring. ;)

have you taken it completely apart before you cleaned it? could be some stinky oil etc. hiding inside the base or somewhere.

I haven't changed the O-rings @Rob but I've taken them off and put them through the ultrasonic cleaner with the rest of the tank. So they shouldn't be a problem?

Yes completely disassembled twice @zouzounaki, ultrasonically cleaned and scrubbed within an inch of it's life. It's almost as if the taste is coming from the metal. Maybe it's porous in someway and has absorbed some oils? I can't think it is though, the build quality seems outstanding and the materials top class.

If I can just get this taste issue sorted I think I've found my perfect tank, that's why it's so frustrating. I don't want give up on it.

Machine Oil "can" impregnate anything. I had a similar problem a while back and only cured it by a complete O Ring change @Astral :)

I'll have to give it a go @Rob, anything's worth a try. I desperately want to get this one sorted, it's a keeper.

I've had the same problem with my OG Vandy Beserker. I'm pretty sure @Rob has nailed it - repeated cleaning of my Berserker reduced the nasty oily taste but never removed it entirely - replacing the o'rings did the trick - oils and petrol can contaminate and totally mess up some rubber and plastics and no amount of cleaning will remove the rank taste. Replacement is the only option.

I had the same problem. I let it soak in warm water with vinegar. Eventually after a couple of tanks it went away. However, i do get gurgling...

In the past I’ve bought a bottle of Vodka , pour some in a glass and take a shot. That normally works lol.

Or pour a glass of vodka and put the separated parts in it. And let the alcohol soak over night. Then rinse with warm water. But don’t drink the left over vodka cos it’s not very nice. I’ve done it in the past and more often than not it works. But some times the vodka can prematurely degrade the washers depending on what there made with.
