Snagged myself a mini DID clone that is en route to me as I type this, been wanting to try out genesis attys for a fair while but never got around to it, so a few quick questions for the genesis gurus of our little world!

1) Is a chefs torch needed for oxidizing the wick? Or will a normal lighter suffice?
2) Is there any major difference between ohms on a silica vs ss mesh wick? (I have a meter, just curious while I wait)
3) What is the best method? Silica/SS hybrid? Pure SS quenched in PG or VG? Pure SS quenched in actual juice?
4) Any tips on wicking and coiling a mini DID clone would be appreciated too!

Looking forward to reading the replies! :D

1)I can't get enough heat from my lighter for SS mesh,so I use a gas cooker ring.2)I haven't actually noticed any difference,as if there was I'd not see as I make a new coil for each wick.3)I like the hybrid SS/silica as it seems to cure some of the dry hits, especially with long draws.4)I'll have to go look up that atty, mine's an AGA-S (17 mm dia with a vertical wick/coil)

Hmm guess I'll need to invest in a torch then! No gas hob in this house haha.

I watched a couple vids earlier to get an idea of what I'm doing, one of which was Todd with a mini DID clone, not sure if it's the same clone or if this is a clone made by someone else, but still at least it gives me an idea of what I'm doing!

Tromain clarendon imports down the bottom of PZ does the mini flamethrower lighters for a quid each and they are refillable, i used to buy them when i smoked, they should be hot enough for the job ;)

I prefer the pulse method, my blow torch doesn't get used anymore. It's much better for avoiding the dreaded hotspots :)

I find I'm getting much better results from 2mm SS rope, wrapped in a layer of mesh and oxidised, with Kanthal ribbon wire coil. But between the options you listed, I'd go for mesh with silica tail(s).

remnant Do you find your getting less dry(ish)hits with that? I ask as I have some SS cable,SS mesh, but found it was a swine to avoid hotspots suddenly appearing mid-tank and once I'd had a hotspot,no matter how I tried,I couldn't get rid.

Good call Doofry somehow I always forget about clarendon imports! That said I'm thinking I may tell my mum to buy me a chefs torch for xmas this year, so I can use it for cooking too XD

Never seen this method, what does it entail? :)

you make your coil and set the wick in it. Then you pulse the on button on and off just to get the coil heating up. It's best to use a battery that is not fully charged. It can take anything from a minute to about 5 but it oxidises the wick just where it's needed and leaves the rest of the wick clean. I'll see if I can find a good video cos I'm not sure if that makes sense :)
