Can anyone tell me why it is always called vegetable glycerin?
Due to the rise in bio diesel, all glycerine that we buy is palm oil based. The soap companies do make some excess glycerin but they mostly use it themselves to make lotion and creams. (Yes, commercial soaps are made from animal fats called tallow). If you buy glycerin from boots or a baking shop, there is a small chance that some is animal based, unless the bottle states vegetable glycerin. Most likely not though. It is a byproduct in bio diesel production and the fuel companies have lots of it.
But my question is really, why is it important to have Vegetable Glycerin? Is it a thing to appeal to vegans? And considering that we are not likely to buy any other version, why not just call it Glycerin?
