Glycerin?

I checked Boots, (that is where I have been ordering my Glycerin from for years, as I use it for making creams and lotions) and theirs does not state that it is vegetable based. Yes, it is pharma grade and my local pharmacy confirmed to me that it is most likely to be vegetable based, as that is the easiest to source, but it is not guaranteed and therefore I cannot make a claim for it to be vegan friendly.

Shockin is only the price increase since last year!! I last ordered Glycerin in October lats year from boots and it was 0.89/bottle. It now has gone up to £1.29 :eeek:

It is easy to order online and then pick up in store.

oh, sorry - didn't see your update Wren... I also make my own soap!! A fellow soap maker - Yay :2thumbsup:

But the soap making industry uses animal glycerine? I mean I am assuming P&G would use the Glycerine they gain when making soap and most of their soap is tallow based. Same for Nivea.

Can I point out that the enquiry I made to Boots, and whose reply Purplefowler has linked to, was NOT for this brand, it was for their own branded value glycerine. It has a different product code. Therefore, please don't assume that the "care" brand is the same and that it is vegan/vegetarian safe - it is probably best to check directly with Boots customer services.

This is the product I enquired about:

That's the stuff I get. I was worried for a minute then in case I've been buying the wrong stuff.

It's the same price... Sigh... I hate price hikes.
Honestly, they are probably both vegetable based. But its good to know, I can use animal derived ones, if I should stumble across it, there is no difference. Although I doubt I will...

yep I get the value stuff too :)

Same here.

One of the main differences between Pharma Grade and other types, is the amount of allowed contaminates. This being far less in Pharma Grade. But even Pharma Grade has an allowed amount of contaminates. (I haven't researched yet so don't ask.)
But the less contaminates that are possibly in your juice, the better.
