Really interesting stuff @Chegs. In your 'beast box', does it just have 1 cell pack like the one listed? How do you go about charging? I have seen you talk about balance charging, I'd there a lot to learn/ be careful of when charging these lipo cell packs? Is a suitable charger expensive.
As I say, I don't think I'll jump straight in with lipos, but maybe one day.
As for squonking, yeah I like the idea of it. I generally use rebuildable tanks, but a dripper with a built in supply of juice is something that'll prob really take off soon. With all the fat daddy vapes squonking kits available now, surely it's just a matter of time before a few good drippers are produced purely for squonking. Don't you think?
The beast box lipo pack is one I created myself from 6 x 2200 MaH cells, wired as 3 x parallel to get 2 x 6600 MaH cells which are then wired in series to get 8.4 volts.Resulting in a heavy beast, which even with a plastic enclosure is still unwieldy to carry around so resides in the house and only got used whilst the other box was on charge. As I now have 2 squonkers built, the beast got taken apart until I think up another use for the lipo pack.
All my boxes are fitted with JST connectors, one of the squonkers has a JST socket glued into the bottom & the other has removable cells which I soldered further JST sockets to as my balance charger came with JST connectors. The balance charger was only about £10-15 quid from eBay,has adjustable ranges for lipo/NiMH/NiCad/pb cells and adjustable voltage outputs from 4.2-22.2 volts,it also has balance charging ports for 2S-6S packs.
I started off on rebuildable tanks, swapped to RDA's only for ease of changing flavours which gradually went lower ohms as I lowered the nicotine levels until I was having to drill the air holes on brand new attys and carry spare 18650's if I went out.I then tried a 3D RDA as these were going to be a cheap answer to my requirements(RDA with a small tank of juice)but it got thrown in the scrap drawer when I was sat watching TV and refilling it at the same time. The 3D design was shit, the filler hole had a small screw in the bottom of the juice well which was a PITA to remove as there was a lump of wick draped across it.I finally got it out,and stuck an 18G needle in the hole & squeezed the bottle of blackcurrant+aniseed juice to speed the refilling only for the fucking top of the bottle to pop off & soak me in pungent juice. The next device I tried was the Big Dripper,it has a tank above the coils/wicks feeding juice through a tiny hole in the tank base to one of the 2 wicks. It isn't that bad a design, just can't quite cope with much lower than 0.4 ohms(lack of airflow)and has a solid metal tank so I've no clue on juice levels(if left stood overnight it will leak)if I need pop out.I also have the Russian 91%,decent sized tank but shit airflow so has to run +1 ohm coil and 18mg juice which just gives me a headache trying to suck a marble through a straw.
Then I heard about squonking, but my lack of cashflow meant I could only dream. My constant need to fiddle with things soon had me trying to repair the Zenith's melted insulator & I noticed the centre-post could be drilled to create a tube that would carry the juice up from the bottle inside the Hammond box.I saw Seedy was due to be getting the FDV 510 BF gear, ordered 1 & rearranged the lipo pack to allow room for it+bottle/switch/mosfet in a Hammond box, chopped a lump out the side of the box so I could squeeze the bottle & bingo....squonker box.Doesn't look to pretty, but all it was required do was work which it does well.I've had to alter the DIY mixes from 70/30 VG/PG to nearer 50/50 as since the weather got cooler the juice can be a little awkward to get through the tiny holes in the 510.The biggest hassle was finding attys that have a large enough cap to squeeze approx 1 ohm dual coils made with 0.4 mm Kanthal(Zenith/Mephisto/Plume Veil)without the cap getting as hot as the bloody coils.I tried 28 mm attys(Fraggle bought me 2 Mutation XL)which DO have plenty of room for coils, plenty of airflow but the cap is so large I keep expecting to find a family of refugees has moved in.This results in shit taste, very long legs on the coils which then move away from the air holes if I drop the atty and just generally piss me off so aren't getting used. Now I've got 3 attys suitable for squonking,2 boxes converted to squonking, enough lipo packs to jump start the car if needed I'm set.If I need another device,I still have a couple of mechs & a couple attys to go on them so I can finally say "I'm saving money vaping"
