Evening fellow vapes!

I am starting to toy around with the RBA section of my Subtank mini,

Currently i have 0.32mm/28ga Kanthal A-1 wire.

As I am new to coiling I'm wondering what kind of builds you guys are currently using? I currently enjoy the rebuild 1.2 ohm coil as I have not ventured into the sub ohm world yet!

Any details on what size diameter is best, micro or spaced coils and how many turns would be great!

If you guys have any good photos of your builds or links to tutorials I would love to see them and it would help me loads!

Thank you for your help in advance!

Happy Vaping,

Brad

Sorry guys, that's meant to say prebuilt!

Also I'm looking for a balance between flavour and vape!

Check the coil porn thread - loooooaads of pics in there. May find a few of mine in there if you squint. Not much ref the subtank in there though.

There have been lots and lots and then some more threads on subbie builds so its worth having a gander around the forum.

For what its worth i like to have a 26/33 clapton 5 wraps around a 2.5 driver giving me approx 0.6, thats when i use a tank as i'm 99% drippers atm.

If your liking what you have right now stick with it.

Aaaa 'the world of the sub ohm' contrary to populer belief entering sub ohm is very different to entering narnia as generally with sub ohm theres a happy ending. Don't be like aslan, just make sure your kit is up to the job.

Sub ohn is not a mythical land its just a different resistance oft requiring different kit.

Anyway, welcome, enjoy and as i said there are a billion subbie threads get digging.

I am also new to this coil building lark, i have a thread on here along the same lines as your asking, anyway I managed to build a good coil the other day, its
24awg wrapped round a wood screw i had lying arround looked about 2.5mm dont know exactly what size i did 5 wraps and kept them spaced out a little, it came in at 0.44 Ohms on my mod dry after putting in the cotton, it sits at 0.46 wicked and soaked, i am happy with this it fits really nice in the RTA and its the first coil ive managed to get to vape at 57.5 watts in the tank with no dry hits.

please note i am useing the v2 RTA in my tank thats the one with the 2 holes in the side to let the juice in not the slots in the bottom

garymeg I will also be using the V2 RTA, how are you finding the juice holes and wicking?

when i first tried i was useing tight coils and anything above 25-30 watts i kept getting dry hits played with different diameter coils not a lot of change then i thought I'd try a spaced out coil gaps evened out useing my thumb nail and its vaping really well
as regards wicking when i thread my cotton i dont cut the ears off untill after fitting the barrel, i rest one side of my scissors on the barrel the cut leaving about 2mm above the barrel. gently poke down each side with a bit of wire so not to squash up the cotton i also make sure it covers the holes but no gaps and not poking through make sure your cotton is soaked before firing

dont over fill the tank too much and it might leak leave about 2-3mm short of the top of the chimney.

like i said I've now got this up to 55 watts vaping, gonna try some 22awg with an extra wrap when it arrives hopefully that will improve a little more

The wee blue screwdriver that comes with the subtank is 2mm.
Using this and 28g kanthal would suggest 7 wraps.
Personally I prefer a 2.5 to 3mm coil on subtank, so for 1.2 ohms you would be looking at 5wraps on a 3mm drill with 28g.
I find spaced coils work fine on the subtank mini RBA, tight coils tend to spit a bit with my juices, but I mostly build in the 0.5 ohm region.

Look at steam engine for coil combos to try out, don't be afraid to experiment to find a taste that suits you and your juice, as long as you stick with the guidance on steam engine, and check your ohms.

Thank you for your help!

I have ordered a coil jig which is coming tomorrow which ranges from 3.5 to 0.5mm so I can change the diameter!

I'm looking forward to having a proper play tomorrow!

I normally only use 26 AWG because I have big fingers, shaky hands and just don't like thin wire. 5-6 wraps around a 3.0mm screwdriver (its not exactly 3.0 mm but close) seems to clock in at around 0.5 ohm which is good for a single coil build IMO.

I tried using coil jigs and other tools that supposedly make it easier, but in fact using these made things worse so I don't suggest coil jigs. Just get a set of drill bits or screwdrivers, or any other kind of metal pole. You can wrap wire around anything really, just make sure you know the diameter etc. I use an old screwdriver that I had since god knows when for all my builds and it works great, far better than any coil jig etc.

Edit: I use 26 AWG for my drippers etc, none of which use flathead screws. Wrapping 26 AWG under the screw top can get tricky, for me at least, so 28 AWG is actually good in this case.

So I've done it!

Build a 1.2ohm coil which is performing beautifully!

Thank you for your help fellow vapers!
