Yep there are in England too, sense of smell and taste was added more recently. No help if you're asymptmatic and have none of those though?

I guess that's why we had the lock down though.... presuming asymptomatic people don't continue to carry it around for months?

For people who are wearing the disposable masks
are these disposed of after each shopping trip.
I suspect there are people out there continually wearing
the same disposable mask all the time.

There are criteria you can find on the nhs website (in scotland, at least, i’m sure in england too). It’s something like 3 episodes of a new dry cough in a day and a fever. Or if you lose your sense of smell and taste.
That's concerning but a bit late for me. I had a dry cough throughout January and February and was coughing 3 or 4 times an hour nevermind a day. No other symptoms and I hadn't heard about covid back then so put up with it. I was planning on going to the doctors but it all of a sudden stopped.
Was it covid, or wasn't it ! Guess I'll never know.

No, but they undoubtedly pass it on to other people, some of whom might also be asymptomatic.

I looked on nhs, here are the symptoms they tell you to self isolate and get tested, if you have them, and it says if you have ANY of the symptoms:

The main symptoms of coronavirus are:

  • a high temperature – this means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back (you do not need to measure your temperature)
  • a new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)
  • a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste – this means you've noticed you cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal

Not sure iso alcohol will help with that, but the medical style 3 ply masks I've been spraying with 100% iso alcohol.I'm not aware of any health issues, dunno if anyone else does this, it means I can reuse the masks a few times, rather than binning them after one use.
Yep, I have the 70% version. Can't remember where I read it but I read somewhere it was better at killing the virus. Nowhere said it was any worse.

They should be disposed of on removal or after 4 hours of wearing is how I understood it.

In november last year my wife had the worst and most persistent dry cough i’ve ever known. it was so bad that one night she couldn’t sleep and phoned nhs 24 and they sent her to the out of hours gp at 3 in the morning. sent her home and said it was a cold symptom. it went on for at least four weeks. no other symptoms, though.

I’m sure a lot of people are only doing it so they can get in the shop, and use the same one over and over again. But then, people are using scarfs and other stuff. I think it’s only a requirement to cover your mouth and nose with something.

That's what i suspected, so in effect they could be continually wearing an infected mask and spreading corona.
