What's new

Humidity, Damp, Condensation and Vaping

Much as it goes against the grain to reply, with sensibility, to one of your posts @knome ( :D ) but the new windows are more than likely the contributing factor, new fangled double glazing is very air tight.

I think we made an error by not bothering with those window slot vent thingies.

Currently trialling a supply of Poundland damp traps. Will look at dehumidifiers after we've upgraded the kitchen.

I live in an old, draughty Victorian house, single glazed box sash windows, the lot. Condensation was the bane of our lives. Bought loads of those damp traps, silica, cheapo dehumidifiers etc.

Then I got this. No more damp problems at all. It's got a tank that must hold a litre or so, at first I was emptying it every couple of hours, but after a while it just maintains a decent level of humidity. Added bonus is that you can put your cleaned tanks on the vent to dry.

LOL, we've got them in our tiny flat and they're fucking useless!

We get damp because we have no outdoor space so all clothes, etc are dried on an airer...in the Winter it's terrible, we HAVE to have windows open

Trouble is, that makes it so damned expensive as we are all-electric, storage heaters, no mains gas to this block, I have no idea why.

We had loft and cavity wall done a couple of years ago, it seemed to help a bit, but still get black window frames and black ceilings and walls in the corners on the exterior walls that we have to wash down....and we have exterior walls on all 4 sides :(

So I'm really hoping vaping doesn't make it worse! lol

Thanks for this, I've been looking for a good dehumidifier as my bedroom gets really damp. Clothes going mouldy type damp.

I've seen cheaper ones but it seems like you get what you pay for

If you save a search on ebay for DD122FW you sometimes get them a bit cheaper - pretty sure we got ours for less than £100. It's got a laundry mode as well - put all your washing on racks in a room with it, close the door and by the time you're home from work it's all dry. Great bit of kit.

I'm a dehumidifier evangelist. Join me.

Haha! :D

Laundry's one of my main problems actually, I live in a flat and so have to stick everything on the radiators which just puts the moisture into the air and also means I don't get as much benefit from the radiators. I have one bedroom wall that's so damp I decided to paint it to cover the discolouration and it took four days for the emulsion to dry :/ That was in Feb.
