Hybrid top caps on Mechs - advise please.

Hola all.

So, getting a bit confuddled for the umpteenth time today.

When you're told to have a protruding 510 if your going to be using the hybrid top cap, I take it that is the wee screw that sticks out the bottom, not the actual threaded screwy in bit?

And by how much does the wee screw need to protrude? My Mephisto's are at best 0.5mm sticking out and the Keneddy isn't much better.
Is that enough for being safe???

Yup the screw. HAS to be protruding enough so that the battery terminal has no chance of catching the thread of the atty

What you don't want to do either is screw things down too tightly, denting the positive on the battery and causing your 510 to sit in a little depression curving up towards those threads.

Or have a screw that's loose enough to turn when your screwing the thing together

All attys with adjustable positive screws should really have a reverse thread on the positive screw so it moves towards the battery rather than away from it if it does move when you screw it down.

No, sorry, they don't.. I meant that I think that they *should*.

This is where I think regulation can be a good thing.. require by law that all attys are hybrid-safe, reverse positive thread if adjustable and a minimum protrusion. Of course the clueless Dickey's making the laws know nothing about the thing they are making laws against so fat chance there.

That was happening also with the nextiny 'clone' today.. In one day I learn so much! And probably even more tomorrow!

After watching a couple of very useful youtubes and reading thro earlier posts, I'm fairly confident that my atties will be fine on my arriving soon Phantom hybrid cap.
