What's new

It's happened. MHRA approved ecig

That was an exciting video.....

Cant say i found it temping, but there are people using cigalikes to get them off cigs.

From what I could see, that isn't actually an e-cig.

It's basically a version of the nicorette quickmist in cigalike form.. no electronics involved, no heated vapour produced, just inhalation of an unheated nicotine containing fluid, formed into a mist by allowing air to flow through it.

The antis will love this because there's no visible vapour involved and so they can safely believe the lie that there's no contamination of 'clean' air from it. If this is the best that big pharma has to offer then they've shit out when it comes to enticing vapers to their products.

On a concerning note though, if the MHRA considers a disguised quickmist a suitable replacement for a pv and this is the only kind of device they'll license, I worry for the current smokers who would try it, thinking they were vaping and dismiss vaping as a viable alternative on that basis.

Exactly ! People scared off by the ' we don't know what's in them 'brigade may give these a whirl, find they're rubbish, and never bother to try a proper one after a poor first experience

I notice on their webpage there's a twitter feed that shows ASH promoting this product. I wonder if this is the 'licensed product' that ASH recommends? They've been saying for a few months now that they cautiously welcome e-cigs as long as they're licensed.

This product isn't an e-cig so I wonder if ASH should amend their policy to say they recommend licensed QIDs (Quickmist In Disguise) ?

pfft!

Well, I'm all for it, they should bring it out and help smokers kick the weed.

The more alternative products the better, let consumers decide for themselves which are the best. It's a cigalike, this isn't aimed at vapers who have already found their solution, though it might be just the job for us nicotine addicts on a plane. Vaping has nothing to fear from products like this, and vaping should welcome regulation and the challenge of getting MHRA approval. Only we want a level playing field and not draconian and ill-informed regulation.

I note the Kind Consumer strap line "... a safer alternative to smoking ..." isn't that exactly what vaping is?

Maybe vaping will be viewed as "... the effective and sensible alternative to Voking ..."

It uses r134a as a propellant, like quite a few aerosols these days.

R134a is a low pressure refrigerant used in chillers, high temp freezers (-5°c ish) car air conditioning systems and older domestic fridges and freezers (its been superceded by butane and propane...).

Under tge kyoto treaty I am not permitted to allow r134 to vent to atmosphere as its damaging to the ozone layer, if it gets ignited it is one of tge many refrigerants that burn off as mustard gas (minimum copper welding temperatures for my application).

Now, I'm no doctor, but would you really wish to inhale a gas that is judged "not safe for the ozone layer"?

That is before we get to the other noxious sounding ingredients that we know we don't need to be in eliquid.

Oh, but its mhra approved? Like fucking chantix was approved? Like if we go back far enough, thalidomide was approved?

No, sorry, it doesn't even fucking look like the cigs I used to smoke, I preferred the artisan custom approach (alright, fucking amber leaf if it makes you happy :p ).

Fail. In my opinion.

Complete and total fail.

I know there's probably stuff in some of the flavouring in eliquid that isn't great for you but bloody hell, there's no way you'd convince me to suck on a refrigerant.

How does crap like this get approved?
:banghead:
