What's new

It's here! Now what?

I was killing 100gm's of rolling tobacco a week, finding it harder & harder to get about and cursing myself when I'd roll another ciggy, smoke it & on dropping the butt into an ashtray, discover the still lit butt from the previous roll-up still smoldering away(roll-ups go out within a minute of being left alone)I was playing online golf & a mate mentioned he was trying e-ciggys (nicolite)which I mentioned to my OH,so she bought me a disposable from the garage to try.I got home, logged into golf for the night & she went to bed...before she'd woken next morning, the disposables battery was dead but I'd done a quick google thru night & discovered rechargable nicolites,so she bought me one.My tobacco consumption dropped to 25gm's(needed roll-ups while it recharged)per week the 1st week, she bought me a 2nd nicolite & my tobacco consumption dropped to 12.5gm's in 10 days. She bought me a 50gm pouch but I'd been investigating e-ciggys & discovered Ego could be bought locally so persuaded her to buy me 1.A week later, she'd bought me a 2nd Ego battery & I was finding it hard to find the time to smoke a roll-up so decided to finish the pouch off & not buy anymore tobacco. That was 3 (ish) months ago,and despite occasional panics when the tank/atomizer would fail @ stupid o'clock resulting in my needing to get creative with wire/fibre-glass,or hunt out my soldering iron to build a battery box,I've not wanted/had a smoke since.

I found that the single biggest difference for me was when you have a cigarette there's a predetermined time limit. You get 10 or however many drags it is and that's it. Th nicotine cravings go away for a while and then when you get more cravings you spark another, and so on.

With an e-cig it doesn't go out. You can keep chain vaping it until the battery dies, so to start with the e-cig never left my hand when I was at home.

then I moved up to 24mg strength liquid and found that that worked for me more like a cigarette did and I wasn't vaping so much, since then I'm now on 12 mg liquid and my vape is usually within arms reach unless I'm working. If I want it I pick it up and vape it, and over time I find I reach for it less often.

There isn't any "right" way to do it. I decided I wanted to stop smoking and would use vaping to help wean myself off nicotine. Then discovered I liked it so why stop? It's basically harmless as far as we can tell. So I vape when I feel like it and that's that.

If you decide you want to cut down and smoke a little while you do, that's fine. If you only ever want to switch out vaping for the time you can't smoke or don't want to - in your house/car/pub then thats fine. If you want to switch to vaping long term instead of smoking, that's fine, if you want to vape a little while and then quit entirely, that's fine.

Go at your own pace. Most people who try vaping prefer it to smoking, there are lots of stories of people who quit smoking by accident.
Congrats on making the switch over and welcome to the planet.

When I got my first ecig I still had a pouch of tobacco left. I vaped during the day and had rollies in the evening when I knew I would crave them more. When the pouch ran out I never bought anymore and vaped full time. That was December last year and I haven't had a stinkie since.

Well knarfarrgh seconds before pushing me out of the operating theatre this gentleman said to me. I have done all I can do for you, now you need to stop smoking. That will be four months tomorrow funnily enough.

I have been struggling with this as well. My solution has been to move to dripping as it runs out in a defined time. For fags while on beers I go 510-T bridgeless direct dripper cig-a-like with HoL Puro and rest of the time octupuses with all kinds of tobacco flavours (I save the HoL stuff for beers). The 510_t gives about the same time to vape as a rollie.

OP: I quit by buying a Tesco's thing and beers. Finished the last rollies before the beers and then went with the ecig. Turned out I quite liked it and didn't go nuts about not having a rollie all evening. Havent bought any fags since (but have bought lots and lots of vaping stuffs). I got even more excited about vaping when I realised I can do it indoors.. something I haven't been able to do since I was a younger man many years ago.

Edit: Just a thought: I lot of people dismiss different vaping systems as being crap due to their own preferences. I find it that every system you can buy has its merits and a place. For example, the 510-T is not the best vape, but the more authentic cigarette feel and short run time make it appealing to me when I drink beers. Sometimes towards the end of the evening I want more vape, so I go with the same juice in a dripper and make the room foggy :)

Just to add my tale...

While I only just joined the 'advanced class' of vaping, I've been using 10 motives for about 2 months (until today hurrah!).

I picked up a disposable when I was drunk one night, can't remember why I thought it was a good idea, and the next day realised that I really hadn't needed a 'proper' cig since I got it.

Promptly went out and bought myself several rechargables and refills but I had a few packs of tobacco both in my desk at work and at home. The cost of the refills on 10motives was way way higher than the cost (financially) of me smoking so I did sometimes sneak out the odd stinky fag, but truthfully they tasted bloody dreadful after just a few days of e-cigs so I dropped them almost entirely.

Now that I've gotten myself properly 'ego'd up' I think the concerns list for me has gone from .... making sure i had enough papers/filters/baccy to... making sure i had some recharged batteries and enough stupidly expensive refill carts to... making sure that I have enough clearomizers for all the flavours I want to try... the megapowerful battery I bought should do a nice job in keeping me going, especially with the 2 650s I picked up so battery will be less of an issue I think.

Good luck!

Chalk up another "I quit by accident" story :)

Once you have 2 eGo batteries or a mod and 2 batteries you're pretty much set on the hardware front. A 900 eGo or an 18650 battery will last an entire day for most people so one battery being charged, one battery being used and some kind of emergency "o shit it broke" backup has most bases covered.

I never really missed the 'hanging out of mouth' bit of smoking so for me cig-a-likes are consigned to the box of 'stuff I'll probably never use again but need to keep' there's a place for them though.

My very very first e-cig was also a 10-motives Tesco disposable thing. I've still got it for nostalgia reasons though the battery in it has long since died.

I was only trying to cut down on the smokes, after trying my mates ego/ce5 setup.
Brought a twin pack of the same and was happily cutting down.
After about 4 weeks, was down to 3 or 4 smokes a day. But found they where starting to taste nasty. I was only doing fruity flavours.
Week five tried my first couple of tobacco flavours. They tasted rank to me. By the end of week five, smokes tasted rank as well. So I stopped smoking altogether.
That was two and a half months ago. Not had a smoke since.

I switched strait over but the first few weeks were a bit hard. What I done was stick an old unwashed ashtray under the sink out the way and every time I thought I wanted to have a rollup I'd go take a wiff lol
Couple months down the line I didn't need to do that anymore but that was just my little trick I found helpfull , but no one will judge you for having a fag as as everyone has there own way of making the switch

Good luck :)
