What's new

Just realised why I DIY

sparkyjuice welcome to the world of mixing, time consuming and frustrating but mostly pleasurable and rewarding. You've got one of the major pitfalls nailed already, steeping, there is, to my mind, no quick fix for steeping, I use Lordy's coffee frother method to accelerate the steeping process for small samples but proper steeping makes all the difference to the final result.

Also, with regard to steeping, don't follow convention and steep with the cap off your liquid, it doesn't speed the process and you only let contaminates into your juice. I saw a post from John at Flavourart today basically saying the same thing.

I've seen some beer concentrate somewhere but can't remember where, you can get premixed beer ejuice here though http://www.leisureliquids.com/dekang-beer

Got some whiskey flavour steeping as we speak I leave cap off for first 24 hours only than cap up and shake and wait........maybe I'm doing it wrong,
thought cap off was to let off volatile chemical n flavour ?

Only time to take the cap off, is when you do a daily shake of the bottle, let the old air out and new air in.
Thats what i do, i even stopped with the milk frother way.
Just keep it dark and warm and after a week your good to go!

I can see where you are coming from, I mix my own VC which I find pretty good and a few others have also confirmed that. Let`s however remember that there are plenty of vendors that sell really good stuff at reasonable prices and they are helping the cause. As you know it takes time to mix stuff up as well as buying in the raw ingredients, yeh we can do it on the cheap but they have to make a living out of it, so having to pay a quid or two extra is no big hardship especially if you are not comfortable mixing your own up. I assume the bottle had the brand details on it, why not just write a small review on it as opposed to tarnishing all vendors with the same brush as this is how this comes across.
Hi u8myufo my aim/rant was never meant to tarnish all e-liquid vendors with the same brush, I stated in my original post that 'I know there are some very good (and very expensive) e-liquid manufacturers out there' and in a follow up post that 'I have been tempted to try some House of Liquid stuff myself'. I am not anti e-liquid vendor only anti crap e-liquid vendor, not for my own sake as I mix all my own juices so they have no impact on me, my concern is for newbie vapers who get a potentially bad experience that may contribute to them giving up on a life changing/saving choice. I have nothing but goodwill to vendors that sell good juice at a reasonable price.

With regard to prices charged by e-liquid vendors, I understand that they have overheads and have to make a profit and I have no problem with that but it does seem that some of them are using a well known marketing ploy of using price as means of differentiating themselves from their competition i.e. it's expensive so it must be good (remember the Stella Artois campaign from years ago "Reassuringly Expensive" - a very truthful way of selling a generic product at a premium price), so, as with some of the vaping hardware on offer now, the suppliers limit the supply of the product and/or market the product at a high price, then all the plebs (not the derogatory use of the word but the original - ordinary citizens) will want it but won't be able to afford it which will make the rich people feel better about themselves and happier about parting with lots of money for it so they can feel superior to the plebs. I know I'm cynical but if you read any marketing text books it’s all there 'the marketing mix (the 4 P's) - product, price' place & promotion'.

As far as writing a review on the liquid goes, I probably wouldn't feel comfortable writing a review on a premixed juice when, apart from coming across the 3ml almost by accident, I don't vape premixed juices. Also, I don't actually have it anymore as it went down my kitchen sink last night, so it isn't physically with us anymore to sit down with and make notes and ponder over its good and bad points, it was a knee jerk reaction - this stuff is rancid, it's going down the sink.

That is all so true @Dirty Dog and like everything in life there are the good ones and bad one`s. As has already been mentioned in your thread perhaps what was in the bottle was not what you thought. I`m also with you on the steeping I keep the caps on mine all the time, I certainly do not undo the tops on my homemade cider to help them mature. When I first started vaping I bought a few 5ml smple tubes of liquid, price was pennies really and as it happened everyone of them was crap. Nothing too much lost there, but I think because of labeling rules it is not viable for vendors to do that so much now.

Thanks for posting back u8myufo sorry for the late reply, I've just got back in from watching Wales stuff the French in the 6 Nations.

I have confirmed with my mate who gave me the bottle that it contained its original contents and hadn't been left anywhere that would degrade its contents and had only been purchased less than a month ago, so no mistakes, just rancid juice. The reason I posted about it was originally as a reaffirmation to myself and hopefully other diyers that we are doing the right thing by mixing our own juices then it dawned on me that for newbies this is potentially the quality of e-liquid they may end up with.

I totally agree that 'like everything in life there are good ones and bad ones' and I did acknowledge that there are good e-liquid suppliers out there but I focused on the bad one that I had just experienced because of the negative potential such juice could have on newbies. I mainly buy my concentrates from Leisure Liquids and Chef's Vapours (good quality product, good service, at a fair price) both these vendors offer quality ready mixed e-liquid (Chef's Blends, Pink Spot, Vermillion River, Mom & Pops and Manabush) at the same price (but cheaper postage) than the vendor with the rancid juice. I suppose it just me getting annoyed at 'get rich quick' vendors and the damage they cause when there are really good vendors that have a passion for what they do and care about their customers.

On a slightly different note, I am enjoying your thread on the double barrel nano coils. I tried a similar build in my Kayfun but have since reverted to single microcoil and cotton. Great fun experimenting though. I've got some 0.5mm ribbon wire that I need to use, any suggestions on a good build for the Kayfun or Fogger.

No probs @Dirty Dog The problem is a lot of people will just go out and buy anything on the internet, a lot are happy playing silly fucking facebook games on there computers, but cannot be arsed to do a little bit of research or ask people for advice first. This is a good thing with B&M places where you can more than likely try before you buy a liquid. As to the coils, cheers and yeh it is goood fun building them and learning as you go. Well you could try a Tin Man coil with the ribbon wire, I have made a couple of them in the past but those were put in the Omega dripper. As you can see from @gords1001 picture in my thread he has used them side by side, so it might be worth given it a go.
