Today i've built unpteen coils and have suffered hotspots,snapped wire,microcoils opening back up after torching etc.I may just be having one of those days,but i'm using some kanthal from a different vender to my normal supplier-who i've never suffered these problems with when using their wire-so i'm just wondering do different venders source their wire from different suppliers or is it pretty much standard across the board ?
As i've used both ribbon and standard round wire I don't think i can put it down to a dodgy spool as i've had the same problems with both.
Any thoughts ?

I've found that kanthal on a spool works better than kanthal wrapped around a piece of card. It's a bit of a bugbear for me when a vendor does that.

clint-yeah it was on spools-tiny little ickle ones,which have now 3 times decided to unravel themselves despite being(or so i thought)taped down tight-the sound of 10 metres of kanthal unwrapping itself is not a pleasant one :lol1:

Yep...spools work best....no kinks

You could always get yourself a fly tying bobin holder, it'll stop your kanthal from spooling. :)

I remember seeing some clever person use an old dental floss dispenser to keep their wire in, pure genius.

After a lot more experimenting,i found,for me anyways ribbon works great in a dripper and russian 91%,but just can't get on with it in my kraken,when it eventually fired without popping it took 3 to 4 seconds to give off vapour even with 4/5 wraps coming in at 0.8 ohms and a fresh battery-oh well back to microcoils...
Good calls there guys on storing kanthal btw :thumbup:

Had one final bash at getting ribbon going on my kraken...

The build(have now taken one wrap off to lower the ohms a tad)

@sparky juice-its 0.1x0.4
A very different vape to the regular microcoils i generally use-very smooth-hence taking a wrap off to try and get that throat hit back,surprisingly its got smoother-quite like it actually...
