Micro or standard spaced coil for Kayfun v4?

Hello peeps,

With my Kayfun v4 down. Been thinking of my coil use on it. I have always used micro coils with the wraps squeezed next to each other. I am thinking maybe I should try a standard spaced out coil.

Anyone with experience notice any difference? My Atlantis coil has a spaced coil and wicks just fine. My Kayfun does not.

Also any guides on how to wrap the standard spaced coil? Any tips?

Miss my Kayfun. Realising how good it was. Depression.

I use mico coils at around the 1-1.2 ohm mark on my kf's. I always wick them with cellucotton rather than cotton with no issues, they are the only thing I wick with rayon though.

I use bog standard, hand wrapped, over silica, and microcoils/cotton. Both function OK. The same builds as used in any other of the kayfun tribe all work ok with the v4.

Someone suggested making a parallel coil then carefully remove on of the wires and you'll have a perfectly spaced coil, another way is to use the threads of a screw.

Not tried spaced coils so can't say if its any good, i use a micro chimney coil and its better flavour wise then any other build i've tried

Use a screwdriver to wrap the coil, and once wrapped, hold the ends of the tails in pliers and pull gently until the coil is really tight. Take the pliers off and push the coil with your thumbnail against the handle of the screwdriver a few times. You should now have a perfectly spaced coil.

I've found that any gauge wire at any resistance will work in a Kayfun, but go for something around 2.4mm inner diameter to give you a big reservoir of liquid in your wick, and taper the ends of the wick.

I think it is the sort of thing you should just try.
Do not have a kf4 but have a couple of kfl and mostly use drippers.
I build both types, my first coils were micros but I did think spaced should work better but cant tell the difference.
Perhaps that is just me, because I do not notice many of the subtle differences people claim to perceive with different builds.

Update on the standard spaced coils. Made my 2nd coil and I must admit it does make a difference. Even on koh gen do I am getting better wicking. Not a huge difference but enough for me to realise it is better. Using 3mm drill bit. Now interesting bit.

1. 2mm and 2.5mm coils. Better flavour but more prone to leaking for me unless I change wicks daily. More dry hits. Very hard to get enough cotton through the coil.
2. 3.0mm coils. Unlike the smaller coils, it's really easy to put too much cotton in due to the bigger hole. I actually go for medium amount and it does make a difference. Wick lasts 2 days easy but then again I always shut if the flow control when I am not using it.
3. Cotton bacon vs cellucotton vs KGD.
I have used all three above. My thoughts.
Cotton bacon. Best wicking material so far. Extremely hard to get a dry hit on this. Keep getting a metal like taste. Tried different packs and the whole process my hands and tools were really clean. Stopped using it due to the taste.
Cellucotton. Wicks better than KGD easily but not as well as CB. It does wick really fast. Not many dry hits. Also getting a tinge of sour taste in this as well but it's not like the CB. Different taste.
KGD. Do get dry hits. Slow to wick even on 1.2 ohm builds(which is high for me). Absolutely zero taste after the initial break in period and always get the juice flavour. Using KGD again for now on 3mm 26G kanthanl 8wraps.

I only use KGD on my marquis RDA.
