Mixing and Understanding

BooBoo, I was terrified of mixing and convinced myself I would get killed and kill my entire family... this was years of hearing how dangerous nicotine is... My first mixing mayhem happened while mixing down 52mg to 24 and I dumped an entire 50ml bottle all over my chest, arms and lap.

:) I didn't even get a nic high or rash :P

BooBoo, I've only just got the bits to start mixing and I was given a tip, although if you only make menthol you may not need it.
The tip was to start by mixing your flavours with plain PG or VG in small quantities, say 5ml. Then if it tastes disgusting you won't have wasted expensive nic base.
I've just bought some 54 mg/ml PG nic base, 100 ml of VG, plus some flavours, extra syringes and pipettes, so I'll be starting on my kitchen table soon.
Once upon a time I worried about getting ready-mixed juice on my hands. Now I just curse because it makes them sticky.
I have a friend who wants me to wear nitrile gloves and goggles, but even the base is only a little over double what I vape before I dilute.
Yes it is scary, but all the 'nicotine is dangerous' made me scared of 13 mg juice at first. You just use common sense, take care, and keep it away from children and animals.

Right so am i right in thinking if i get a PG nic base.... I need to then get JUST a VG + flavours + all other "bits". i don't need a "normal PG" as well.... i would like my liquids 50/50 VG/PG.....argghh think me brains are falling out me ears!

If you are looking for a 50/50 mix then you will need both pg and vg as you won't use that much Nic base.

BooBoo1982, I have just received my first batch today for attempting this mixing malarky, and if you want, when I experiment tonight I will put up some photos.

There are loads of vendors on here, you will point you in the right direction, and will give you advice. I asked on Sunday for advice, and thanks to the members and vendors, I got the gist of it pretty quickly. I purchased mine from leisureliquids and the service and advice was awesome. :)

AnnaLaw advice, is to me ingenious and I had never thought, of mixing in small quantities until I just read that.

What Mg of Nicotine do you want the final strength to be, and I will work out measurements on here for you based on 50/50 split :)

AndyC1971 piccies sound awesome! I am thinking of just ordering from Leisureliquids EVERYTHING i require then just biting the bullet and crack on with it...I would probably attempt the final strengths of 24mg & 18mg ..AndyC1971 Thank you... i need EVERY bit of help i can possibly have!!!

BooBoo1982 As promised below is my first attempt at mixing. Whilst I am pretty sure, I have done things right, I am sure, that others will let you know any advice or tips that they may have, or where I could of possibly gone wrong!!

Now before the photos, I decided that I wanted to do: -

10ml off Tutti-Fruitti 50/50 PG/VG mix at 24Mg Strength.

I used the mixing calculator listed here: -

http://www.planetofthevapes.co.uk/apps/mixing_calculator.php

As you can see its pretty self explanatory, and it advised me that I needed : -

4.6ml of Nicotine base (Mine is in VG)
3.9ml of PG/VG mix
1.5ml of Flavouring.

Now I am aware that the flavouring is pretty strong, so I decided to start at 0.8ml and increase to suit my taste.

So below is the contents I used: -

All.jpg

If you notice I have marked the syringes, so I wont encounter cross contamination, and one thing that leisureliquids advised, is you can never have enough syringes or needles, heed this advice!!

So I started with the PG Base (3.5ml) I will explain why in a minute: -

PG.jpg

I then added VG Base (1.1ml) I did not picture that bit, but its excatly the same as above and without nicotine.

I then added the flavouring (0.8ml): -

Flavour.jpg

The reason why I used less PG base than advised, is because the flavouring I have is already in the PG base, so to me, to get a true 50/50 mix, I have to take that into consideration.

I then mixed the 3 above liquids together in my e-liquid bottle: -

E Liquid.jpg

Once I had got this far, I sat down and have a quick coffee, before I continued, as its very hard work, lol!!.

I then added (3.9ml) Nicotine base in VG (This is where the drawing needle comes in, as the texture is very thick, and makes it much easier to control): -

I mixed this into the solution, and used a little in a cartomiser for a test vape. Personally I found it to be a little bitter and the flavour was pretty bland, so I added another 0.3ml of flavouring and added a little of this: -

Ethyl Maltol.jpg

Now I have sprinkled a bit onto the work surface to show you it looks like sugar, and is a sweetner, but more importantly, it has bought the flavour out quite dramatically, and has changed the whole taste to this liquid :)

Finally, as I was impatient, here is the liquid in my cartomiser, to test before it goes into my mini nova :)

Now please forgive the brown line at the top, this was the remaining vanilla that I was vaping before hand, inpatience and all that ;)

I have to admit, I like this quite a lot, and if I am honest, I have been using 24mg Nicotine liquids, but I find this to be a little powerful, but I am now converted to mixing and will alternate between mixed fluid and ready mixed :)

I really hope this is ok, and I would say go for it, its not rocket science. :)

Here's another quick tip - PG can remove the print off of the outside of your syringes - if you get a craft knife and "roll" the blade over the ml markings, you can see where they are! :D

PS - PG removing the print isn't an indication that it's some kind of strong solvent - the markings are printed in a particular ink which isn't designed to be handled a lot, as plastic syringes are "use once only" things in a medical setting.

Now that is a bloody good idea :D
