Mod explosion causes serious leg injuries

How did it go so fast that it got him without him realising there was something up? Whilst I deplore the reporting on this one I would be interested in more information regarding how the event took place. Did he fall asleep with it in his lap unlocked? There is a serious safety issue behind this, same as there is a serious safety issue regarding putting metal items in my microwave. It won't stop me vaping anymore than it will stop me eating microwave meals for lunch, but I would like to know more so I can behave in as safe a manner as possible whilst reaping the benefit of technology.

If anyone is in touch with the guy please tell him we wish him a speedy recovery.

on a lighter note banked from elsewhere a truly fantastic point of phrase.

he is a

utter cock-womble

I would hazard a guess that he has sold this story to the sun as they had the 'exclusive' and all pictures are copyrighted to them. He is also quoted as considering suing the mod manufacturer.
It would appear that he's milking it for all he can get. Something probably caused by his own ignorance/carelessness.
Whilst I'm sure it was a very frightening and painful experience my sympathy for him is sapping.

"Investigators believe the blaze started when an e-cigarette that was charging in the bedroom exploded and set fire to an oxygen concentrator"

Sorry for being a bit thick, I'm not a mech user, but how do you charge the batteries whilst they are still in the Mutant mod?

EDIT - yep am being thick, am confusing the two stories of the two David's separate incidents in the one report.

good luck trying to sue a chinese manufacturer. The guy says hes now bag on cigs. safer. in what way safer precisely?

mutant clone apparently. first google for it came up with an issue with the button magnets not being fully seated on arrival. I wonder if he had any problems before it went thermal overload. also wonder how he didnt notice it was doing so as it was happening, he must have been doing some good shit at the time.

But I notice on their page reporting the incident they added a number of Darwin award candidates. Isnt it ironic that ecig incidents get listed so easily by the press, but cigarette incidents (which must number significantly more) get overlooked.

:: David Thomson, 62, died at home in Wallasey, Merseyside, in August, when a charging e-cigarette exploded and ignited oxygen equipment he is believed to have been using. DARWIN!

:: Pensioner Jen Booth sustained serious burns in April after being engulfed in flames on a ward at Wythenshawe Hospital, Manchester, when an e-cigarette is thought to have ignited the 65-year-old's oxygen supply. DARWIN (thought to have?!)

:: Also in April, a woman in Barking, East London was taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation and shock after an e-cigarette was used with an incompatible charger. DARWIN. The ensuing fire caused major damage to a flat.

:: Pub worker Laura Baty, 18, escaped serious injury after an e-cigarette burst into flames at the Buck Inn Hotel in Richmond, South-West London. The explosion, in April, was captutred on CCTV. NO EXPLANATION!

Must have been a horrible battery to give no forewarning.

Most of these stories revolve around incorrect charging / use....imagine if a paper took it upon themselves to use page space to educate as opposed to scare/slander. That would be the day.

However I would agree with one comment. For some, smoking is indeed safer!

We also have to take into account some of those incidents, horrible as they are were infact made worse by two simple words, oxygen tank, say no more
