I don't have this tank, but the first version has a reputation for being airy and cack for MTL, dunno about the V2.
I would forget smart mode, raise the wattage and try it as a (very) loose MTL/RDL tank

I'm still playing the fbh card on this one 
I've also got the glaz mtl which I tried with same results tbh that's why I bought the ares rta I'm beginning to think mtl isn't for me atm

Well the glaz is way better than the Ares for start. Couldn't get anything but muted flavour from the Area or Ares 2. I'd stick to trying to work out the glaz, what coil and cotton you got in there?

Get yourself an Aspire Neeko RTA. If that doesn't work for you I don't know what will.

I have difficulty with it. After vaping nothing but high(ish) power DTL for ages I'd forgotten how to cigarette. My idea of MTL is 20W and not much restriction. I did try lowering wattage and gradually restricting airflow to see what the fuss is about but gave up as it is too hard. I tend to avoid the MTL threads because I suspect any advice I can give is pretty fcn useless...

Maybe you need something that opens out a bit more. ecigone are punting off the Trio pretty cheap atmo and iirc there's one in the classies.
