It should never get hot enough to burn you or be uncomfortable, is this just really warm? This would probably indicate ... you are vaping too much
No, it's not normal and you shouldn't have to, BUTTTTTTTTTTTTTT...this probably happened because the cartomiser was screwed on too tight therefore breaking the seal all ready there, so everytime you put the cartomiser back on, you are over tightening it which means you have to pull it out again.

+1 on all of this, however, I would like to add slightly to this: -
Point 2 - Its getting hot as you are probably chain vaping, so as to your original question, yeah I would up your nicotine strength. Your body will tell you when you have had enough nic.
Point 4 - Your tank could be getting cloudy, as menthol is known to react with Polycarbonate tanks, and is a well known 'tank cracker' so if you have left it for a while and it is still cloudy, then this is a reaction. Try a glass tank like a protank II or mini protank II
