Been vaping the same Golden Virginia 18mg stuff for 10+ years and getting 2 months from a nautilus tank. Searching for a new supplier for various reasons and I have found a darker liquid which I really like but the coil in my fireluke gave up after a few days! I was really surprised (it was a new tank too!) I’m now looking at pale liquids only to give a good coil life. Is that correct?

Pretty much yes, there are a lot of variables that contribute to coil degradation.
The most obvious is how dark an eliquid is.
Others include sweeteners and even nicotine strength.
A very important factor is coil quality, you mentioned that you've changed tanks recently but all tanks are not made equal, some perform badly with certain flavours so if you previously had a better experience with aspire coils you may want to consider going back to those.

I've herd good things about the fireluke tanks, I'm not saying they're bad, they just may not be what's best for you.

Hi. That happened recently to me with a new Fireluke tank after filling, new coil, with a dark chocolate mix. All my clear liquids last the longest coil wise. Too much sweetener is a coil life shortener too.
I found the Fireluke using the single mesh and clear mixes lasted great.
