As for leaking, it's a fine line, I've built so many but I still can't guarantee it's not going to leak, but make sure none of your cotton is hanging over the air intake will prevent most leaks, also it's best to vape straight away after you've primed your coil and filled with juice, if it spits juice for more than a few draws it's going to leak, my solution for this is:
Take the tank off, get some kitchen roll and blow the juice out, it will waste some but the leak should stop, you can tell if you suck through the tank while it's still off, if it's all air you are good to go, if it's still sucking juice you need to rewick.
