I wish I had checked here first and asked for advice before buying my new vape! But it's done now, so I'm looking for help and advice which will determine if I persevere with it or return it.

I had watched some YT vids and it looked easy enough to put in the coil, cotton etc.. so decided I would get this and felt certain I was capable of putting in a coil. How wrong I was :(

It came with one tiny coil. I put that in, it shorted then showed low resistance. Messed around a while and it did actually light up, so added the wool, then again it just continually gave errors and I couldn't get it going. I had bought a box of mixed coils, so tried some of those (the smaller looking one's) with the same result, only those wouldn't even light up.

Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong?

I guessed the other coils I got might be the wrong type as I couldn't even get them to light up, so for the next step, I guess I should try to get some new coils that are correct for this device, but google gives me nothing but the other coils for the OBS mini kit. So any advice there would be helpful too.

Thank you people of the forum :)

Hi and welcome to the forum.
I'm going to assume that this Cube wasn't new because the new ones come with 2 coils, one of them already fitted.
You also mention 'adding' wool...? That isn't necessary as the Obs coils are screw in, switch on and vape.
I have a Cube and it's a cracking vape, so something is not right with your set up.

These are what you need, there may be cheaper deals out there, so worth a Google.

Don't try to put any coils in the tank that aren't made to fit it.

I suspect it’s the obs cube MTL kit that comes with a rta rather than a sub ohm tank.

Don’t have this kit myself but the deck looks similar to a kayfun. You need to make sure the coil isn’t touching the sides of the posts or the bottom of the deck or it will short out. When cutting the excess leads make sure you’ve got them cut as close as possible to the posts, if anything sticks out the coil will glow when you have the top off but will short when you put it on. It’s also worth checking you have the leads properly trapped under the screws... if you grab the excess leads before cutting and give them a wiggle the coil shouldn’t move, if it does you haven’t captured the leads properly.

@Gee0h what coils do you have, the cube mod itself should be capable of firing down to a 0.1 ohm coil so if it’s shorting then either you’re doing something wrong or you have a fault elsewhere. If you have another tank try that on the mod and if that works then you know the mod is good.

Sorry I didn't say before, but no - it was brand new and it's this one https://www.vapingman.co.uk/obs-cube-with-engine-mtl-rta-kit/ So obviously those coils wouldn't fit. But thanks for the reply.

Ah. If you are new to vaping, that might just be a bit beyond a new user.
Check You Tube for a build tutorial, I would, but I have to be somewhere.
Be back later....;)

Yes, that's exactly it!

When you say it's not touching the sides - you mean the tiny metal sides next to the screws? If so then wow! I think I most definitely did that, it's hard not to. I'm going to have to find a video that shows this up close because as I see it now, it appears to be impossible. If you mean the sides of the tank, I don't know because I didn't get that far. No point putting the tank on if the coil doesn't work. The bottom of the deck part, I do understand and thanks :)

I don't have another tank to try on the mod. I wanted to persevere with this one as I can't believe I'm not capable of fitting a coil! :( But can you recommend any coils? It only came with one which I binned because I assumed it was faulty. I can only find one that was recommended in a YT vid but it's US, not UK. Would it be a certain size? And maybe a 0.2 ohm or higher :hmm:

Thanks again.

I have watched a couple of lengthy YT vids. Had them up on replay last night whilst trying to fit the coil. I just don't understand what I'm doing wrong, but I clearly am doing something very wrong! :30:

Thanks for the reply.

@Gee0h nope not the tiny bits sticking up from the posts next to the screws, those are there to help you retain the coil legs.

The main body of the coil shouldn’t be in contact with the (in)sides of the posts and shouldn’t be set so low that the coil is touching any part of the deck. If you post a photo of how you’ve got the coil mounted that might help.

OK I think I know what you mean. I would like to try again, the thing is, I don't know if the coils I have are suitable. I can't even find through google what coils would be suitable. I do have these - do you think any of them might be suitable - or not?

Thanks very much for the help. I'm heading out now but will drop back later.

Most of them will probably be too low ohms, try the 0.85 ohm ones. If memory serves those coils have a 3mm inner diameter, try tightening them down to 2.5mm if you can to give you more clearance between the posts.

If you bought the kit from a local shop rather than online you could also try going there for help.
