Noob with the OBS cube

Hi @Gee0h
cant help much with this rta as ive never built a coil and been vaping almost 5 years.

another option would be to buy a mtl tank and use that on top of your cube and keep the rta for later down the road.
the zlide or zenith are highly rated mouth to lung tanks on here.

Hi

The ONLY parts of the coil that should touch the atty are the legs at the point at which you fix them. If the coil is touching the base in any other way it will short. You should be able to put it up to eye level and see it’s not touching anything except the fixing points.

As was mentioned cut the legs as close to the fixings as possible so they don’t touch the chimney section when you assemble it all together.

Those coils don’t look suitable at all. If you google pre-made mtl coils you should see some better results. The ones to go for are the coilology ones. You want anything from about .8 ohm upwards. Around 1 ohm is a good starting point. Crazywire is a good place to get them and there’s a discount code for them on this site (click the discount code tab).

As Mrdj says you could buy another tank for your mod too. One with screw in coils. His recommendations are the ones most of us would recommend.

I'm assuming this is the engine MTL RTA (tank)?

If so, the build deck looks a bit on the dinky side but shouldn't be too bad.

I probably wouldn't use any of the coils in that kit, subohm claptons are going to be awkward to squeeze in there without problems...

Seriously consider winding your own coils if you want to use that tank - it's honestly very simple indeed, especially with standard round wire.

Depending where you are, someone might be able to run you through it, or maybe even put a build in it for you by post so you can see what's what?

just took a screenshot for you an up close shot of how to cut the coil leg so nothing touches the rest of the tank

Also make sure the coil is not sitting too high or it will short with the chimney.

Remove tank from the build deck and check Ohms are good
Then place tank back on and check that the Ohms are the same.
If you are getting errors with the tank fitted then you are shorting with that in some way.

Hope hat helps.

Thanks very much all for your time and help. However, I have decided not to persevere, I don't have any confidence in my ability to change that coil every 1-2 weeks when I can't even get started with it. So that was a wasted buy.

I'm looking for an alternative though and really like this but does anyone know if that drip tip works as both DTL and MTL or is it DTL only?

Thankyou :10:

you only really need a tank and not the full kit (but an extra kit or 10 is never a bad thing).

looking at that kit
Ultra Wide Bore Drip Tip
Includes 2x Aero Super Mesh X2 Kanthal 0.3ohm Atomizer Head (Pre-installed) (Designed for 30 - 45W)
so this is a direct to lung tank. for mouth to lung you need a narrower drip tip and higher ohm coil.

I only just saw there was a page 2 on this thread! my apologies.. :22:

Thanks, Discomatt, when I read this I realised this is exactly what I must have been doing wrong. I didn't realise the coil shouldn't be touching anything at all and quite possibly it may have touched the sides :S

That's great advise pdg, thanks. I did think when looking for coils last night, making my own would probably be a lot easier! But saying that, I really have decided just to give it up. I really cba with all that and should never have ventured near it. I'm so vape dependent, say it stopped working suddenly when I'm hours away from home, I would be freaking out! :18:

Much appreciated BigCloud, that is how mine looked... ish :14:

Yes, if I keep the mod I only need the tank. I'm still deciding. I find it a little on the heavy side, but that's only because I'm used to my eleaf but I may keep it. That Zenith tank is the exact same tank as I have now, but it's not working well; it's started to leak and for some reason, my liquid turns dark brown when it's been in there a few minutes. So it's a tank I really need, but my eleaf has seen better days and can be a bit sticky at times.

I'm gutted that one is direct to lung :( there are so many really nice looking tanks out there, but they all seem to be DTL and I can't get into that way of vaping at all. The tank that came with the OBS was quite a wide tip, even though it was MTL, which is why I was asking.

Thanks for the advice.
