I don't think it's a ruse; I think some politicians think it should happen because they think it will reduce underage vaping...
(but it's also a cash grab as well of course)

I don't think it will have much effect in reducing underage vaping, although they may vape a bit less (or more likely to smoke).
There will also be more black market vapes for them to access (and the black market doesn't have age restrictions).

Also they can't see that underage vaping = less youth smoking.

Im no so sure about that, it could be argued that youths who would never have smoked take up vaping because it's there.

i think for most youngsters vaping is not related to smoking, or necessarily to do with nicotine. it is a craze, and it is that way because of how the vape industry has marketed vapes.

I've friends and also know many other young people aged 18-23, who presumably started smoking whilst children, pre disposables. Now they vape, mainly Ds but some use pod systems. It's inevitable that many will return to smoking or not stop smoking because of massively reduced choices, including the D ban, the tax hikes, and the impending flavour ban. When kids can smoke cheaper than vaping, they will smoke. Said before, 20 fags start at a fiver, £3 for fakes, 50 grams or whatever the size is of hand rolling these days, is £15.

The more restrictions that are put on vapes, the more likely people (whatever age) could smoke instead.

we’ve discussed this before. but the decline in smoking started way before vapes were popular, especially with youngsters. i have no doubt that there are youngsters vaping that would not have started smoking. i obvs don’t condone the current hysteria but you can’t say it isn’t understandable why it’s happening.
