Hi All,

I've recently started building my own coils and so far have had no problems getting them to work as they should for resistance, even glow etc. I've been using 28ga kanthal and making micro coils of 8 wraps which are coming out at 1.4 ohms.

These are working great in my Doge clone as a double coil set-up at 0.7 ohms; plenty of clouds and flavour is as good as or better than my Typhoon sub-ohm tank. However, as a single coil in an Igo-L, it's a little disappointing. Plenty of vapour, but the flavour is a bit muted compared to, say, a 1.4 ohm naturevape coil in a protank of aerotank. I've drilled out the Igo-L airhole to 2mm, which did improve things a bit, but the dripper still loses out to a "naturevaped" tank in terms of flavour.

I'm wondering if I should try, for instance, 24ga kanthal with more wraps or bigger diameter to give the same resistance but with more surface area. I don't know whether to increase diameter or length though. Can anyone tell me what the likely effect of a longer coil vs a larger diameter coil is likely to be?

Or any other ideas?

Cheers,
Ian.

The igo L. It might be worth checking the height of the coil & distance from the air hole, sometimes a small adjustment can tip the scales for flavour. Ask oldhippydude , he's an igo L hippy.

I would drop the resistance of your coil by removing a couple of wraps beyond that and checking the coil is in line with the airhole,I have little to offer. Thicker wire would just slow down heating and I am not sure there is any difference between a shorter wider coil or a longer narrower one

Thanks folks! I've double checked the air hole, and it's right next to the coil. I'll have a bit of a play with lower resistance and see if that helps, before messing about with changing the surface area. Logically, the only difference between the set-up in my Igo and the set up in a nature-vaped tank is where the airflow is coming from (below, in the case of the tank, from the side in the Igo) so I reckon when I get my Kayfun Lite I should be onto a winner!
