I got a reply from Chris Green as you would expect he said nothing new :banghead:

Thank you for contacting me about the regulation of e-cigarettes.
The Government recognises that e-cigarettes help some smokers to quit and the evidence indicates that they are considerably less harmful to health than cigarettes. At the same time, it is essential that we do not encourage smoking and continue to protect children from the effects of nicotine. Ministers have confirmed that there are no plans to mandate European Union rules on taxing e-cigarettes and no proposals have been submitted. As the EU Commission clarified last week, all that has happened is that the Commission has been asked to analyse the issue of e-cigarettes further as part of a wider review of the Tobacco Duties Directive. Any proposal would need the unanimous support of all 28 EU governments to be approved. Many people are concerned about the EU and how removed it can appear to be from the wishes of the British people, which also applies to this issue that you have raised. This is why it is so important for the British people to have their say during the In/Out Referendum on June 23rd. If people do not like what is on offer then they can have their say and vote to leave. Thank you again for taking the time to contact me.

Yours sincerely,

Chris

It doesn't matter how you word it as long as its polite. It's your story [emoji4]

I have sent 3 e-mails to my MP, Mary Creagh, Wakefield. I got reply to first one. It appears that they have all been told what to say ( of course, they don`t have minds of their own ). Her main concern was a gateway for children into smoking. I told her that a recent study had been carried out and completely disproved this. I also asked her how many children she had seen vaping & how many smoking in Wakefield. I have seen none of the former & loads of the latter. Got no reply to that. Nigel Farage confirmed what we all thought on TV when he said that the lobbying by the pharma companies in Brussels was intense.
As has been said, it`s all down to tax revenues & keeping the big corporations sweet as they provide large "donations" to all of the major political parties.

Got a letter today (13/06/16) from my MP in reply to my email sent 23/05/16:

Dear Mr....

Thankyou for contacting me recently regarding the revised EU Tobacco Products Directive, and specifically how this will affect electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes). The revised TPD The revised TPD concerns the regulation of e-cigarettes and herbal products and includes changes to the sizes of e-liquid bottles available and places restricitions on how much nicotine they can contain. Alongside its provisions on e-cigarettes, the regulations include rules concerning the composition and labelling of tobacco products.

I understand there is concern regarding the EU Tobacco Products Directive (TPD). E-cigarettes are becoming increasingly popular and I understand that recent research shows that some of the initial concerns about e-cigarettes were overstated and that vaping can be a safe and effective way to give up smoking.

The government takes the view that it is essential it does not encourage smoking and that it continues to protect children from the dangers of nicotine, and has therefore welcomed the rules set out in the revised TPD. I believe the government has a duty to protect future generations from the dangers of smoking, and overall, I believe these regulations will help reduce the uptake of smoking amongst young people, and help ensure the safety and quality of e-cigarettes.

However, I believe the government should establish a monitoring mechanism to measure whether the Directive, which came into force on 20 May 2016, will have a negative impact on the number of smokers using e-cigarettes.

Thank you once again for contacting me and for sharing your views, which I will continue to bear in mind if and when this issue is debated in parliament.

Yours Sincerely

Rt Hon Dame Rosie Winterton DBE
MP for Doncaster Central
