Priming Problem

New here and new to vaping so after some advice if at all possible.

Sister got me a vape pen for Christmas as she's always hated me smoking so decided give it a go. Used it from boxing day up until last week where it decided it didn't want to work anymore. Was going to purchase another but a colleague said he had one I could have for the cost of a sandwich. Hard to say no really!

So now I currently own a Smok Alien 220 and I have to admit it's far superior to whatever brand I had previously in every way possible. The guy who gave it me told me the coils id need, batteries etc. All was well till Friday when it started to taste rather unpleasant. Trip to my local vapour shop and I purchased 3 Prince TFV12 coils. Never using these before I read up on how the prime the coils and it seemed simple enough. Yet I was wrong.

Presoaked the coil before assembly, left to sit in a tank full of juice for about half an hour and had numerous pulls with the air flow closed off and no button press. After that i began to use it, starting at roughly 20w where nothing happened up to about 40w (usually use at 50-60w) Tasted absolutely awful, so I presumed I must have done something not quite right and it had burned. Coil number 2 had everything mentioned above but was left to soak overnight.

No difference, the juice I'm using is vampire vapes 12mg at 60pg 40vg as I was told higher PG juices tend to get through coils quicker (how true this is I don't know)

Open to any possible suggestions as to how to stop this from happening. I'm hoping I've missed something completely and this isn't normal as vaping so far is seeming to be far more costly than smoking.

Thanks in advance.

My coils have 4 little holes you can see the cotton thru I actually have to take my bottle of juice and squeeze the juice into those holes to prime my coils no length of soaking and trying to get the juice to come thru by drawing on it primed mine. Try that. Do each hole well.
Hope this helps

Your coils and kit dont really match your juice.
Pick up some juice in 70vg/30pg and 3-6mg strength.
Hi and welcome btw.

Prick the cotton a few times with a hypodermic needle or similar, and then do as @kockeyedkitty has advised and push the nozzle right into the cotton before squeezing.

This should help, but you never know with Smok coils.

Are you trying to make it worse? He has 40vg juice and you're advising him to go higher. :)
No im not trying to make it worse.
Im trying to stop the OP from direct to lung vaping 12mg high pg juice through a tfv12 coil.

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.

Kockeyedkitty, my coils have about 10 holes around them dripped juice through them all as well as onto the cotton at the top. So I don't think that will be what's wrong it I appreciate your response.

Ment, is picking the cotton something that needs to be done with new coils? Sorry for the questions but it's all new to me.

Strawberry ripple, I'm not sure what the correct ratio should be if I'm honest. All I know is that I got told higher or juices wick better due to them being thinner (I think). Also is inhaling the juices I've got to lung not right? Been using it for about a week and haven't had any issues until I came to change my coil. Only got the one left and don't want mess this one up too.

Thanks again folks

Everyone is right, sort of, but in different ways.

First off, your kit is designed for DTL (Direct to lung) vaping and huge vapour production. The normal juice people would use with this setup is anything from 60/40 to 80/20 vg/pg ratio and not much higher than 3mg nic level. 12mg is very high for this type of vaping and would be way too strong for most people.

As far as priming the TFV12 coil is concerned, all that is required is to coat the inside of the chimney a few times, drop some juice on the wick holes on the outside, a few times, install coil, fill tank and leave for a few minutes and off you go. You can build up the watts gradually if you want and suck against a closed airflow for a bit of extra saturation but It doesn't really need it. Sounds like you have other issues (other than the obviously high nic level)

When you take the tank off of the mod, do you attempt to fire the mod, to make sure it sees no atomiser and then when reattaching the tank, the mod definitely sees the new tank and gets the ohms right?

Hi Cliffyboy.

I know it's higher than most people use nicotine wise but I was a heavy smoker and have considered getting an even higher mg juice so I'm using it less often.

As for priming the coils it seems I'm doing a lot more than is required so I'm wondering if I've purchased faulty coils. Is this a possibility perhaps, as I'd like find out how many I need to buy with the problems I've had with these recent ones. Surely all 3 can't be bad but only got one left and wanted make sure I'm doing it right before I try my last one. At £5 a go I don't really want be breaking any more.

As for swapping the coils, when I put it back together and turn it on there is a new coil prompt on the mod. Can't remember what ohms they are other than they're very low.

Thanks
