How To Protank and evod rebuilding

I did my first rebuild on a T3 yesterday using 3mm Wick and .2 kanthal. It came in at 2.1ohms and I was chuffed to bits. Is there any advantage to using 2mm Wick instead of 3mm?

I just use 2mm .. I find the 3 has more of a taste ... I could be imagining it tho!

just tied this again and boom ! 2mm silica , 5wraps of .20 comes out at 1.5ohms , didnt bother with the flavour wick as i genuinely forgot to put it in , but nonetheless this is brilliant . given my protank a new lease of life . thank you so much !

Cheers for the guide worked a treat, although I didnt bother with the twisting. Sub 3 quid meter from ebay did the trick too, well appears good enough for me.

Cool just watch out for the bung getting a bit too hot. To be honest you probably won't notice until the next rebuild. :)

Thanks for the how to Whistler. I have a protank and got some Kanthal .34 and 2mm and 1mm wick for rebuild. I've seen 2 videos on the protank rebuild and didn't notice any burns on the plug. I wonder if its the voltage applied that caused them, or chain vaping on a high volt setting? The stock heads aren't double wrapped like you show doing and I can't wrap my head around electronic calculations either but if that stopped the burning of the silicone sleeve then I'd say that's a great idea to do it that way! Are you not getting the burn marks now since double wrapping the legs?
Great tutorial and thanks again.

The factory heads have low resistance legs soldered onto the coil. And since doing the twisting there have been no more marks appearing. I agree it is to do with the voltage. If the protank/evod sits on an ego there shouldn't be too much of an issue, but most people that rebuild use vv/vw mods where as we all know we like to crank it up. Hehe

I bought a couple of 2.5ml X9 Protanks from the far away place.

They were both absolutely shit because of the repeated dry burning, it was clear that juice was being inhibited from getting to the coil. I stripped one today.

Not only was the coil a pile of excrement but the bottom washer only seemed to serve a purpose of constricting juice flow to the coil.

I rebuilt the coil with four wraps of Kanthal to give 1.5ohm. I wrapped it around a 1.5mm silica wick using the pin/needle method...but I used an excessive length of silica so that I could curl it into the base and used one end to go back over the top of the coil as a flavour wick. You can see the old wick on the left and my new one on the right, below:

Job done, problems solved. Vapes like a good'un.
