RBA on MVP 2, what do I need?

Hi,

After much research and thought I've decided to try an RBA and have decided on the Kayfun Lite plus Clone. I've been back smoking rollies after being dismayed with the Aerotank and Kanger coils, which last hours or a day if I'm lucky. I'd rather smoke than spend another penny on Kanger products. I smoked normal analogues for years until I decided to learn to roll smokes, and then I thought why wasn't I doing that for years, it was so much cheaper! and I found it more satisfying. So going from stock coils to RBA's seems like the electronic version of that process, only this time I don't wish to wait years before taking the step.

I've considered recoiling the Aerotank myself (and I probably will also) but I'm also going to buy the kayfun.
I'm posting here for advice from you knowledgeable folks because I'd like a list of what I will need. Forgive my noob questions, but here goes:

As the MVP 2 has an ohm reader, I won't need an ohm reader right?

Will I need a multimeter to check for shorts, or is it right that if the ohms readings aren't all over the place, then there is no short? Should I get a multimeter to be extra sure? If so, any recommendations please.

Any reason not to get pre made resistance wire? (other than coiling to my specific resistance that's not available in pre made resistance wire).

What size screwdriver or drill bits do I need, and any links to get these from please. Better yet, even a RBA specific set with tweezers and whatever would be great.

That's it for now. If I've missed anything out then please add. I'm sure I'll have more questions anyway.

Thanks.

Hi well i use (like you said) the mpv to check the resistance not sure about checking for shorts though i assumed it just would not fire but i could be wrong! Get a set of mini screwdrivers from the pound shop the 2mm one is great for wrapping coils plus the rest are also useful. I have never used premade coils i just use .32 kanthal. Hope this helps in some small way :)

first thing...i really dont understand how your coils are only lasting a day..in 6 months on an mpv with kanger evods (8 of)
I've only seen 1 blown coil, ...anyway.

No you dont need a multimeter.
If you've got some nails or drillbits lying about you dont really need anything else.
Res/no res wire is far easier to use as you cant really go wrong...pick what resistance you want when your buying.(1.8ohms probably) .that's the resistance every coil will be.(unless you do something weird)

Pair of decent small scissors or nailclippers...and cotton or cellu cotton.
I wouldnt mind some ceramic tweezers and a small blowtorch lighter, but it by no means a requirement,a normal lighter and wet fingertips do fine.
Really easy and quite enjoyable once you get going..no harder than making a roll up,probably easier in fact.

@Jase Thanks mate, I'l check out those pound shop ones.

@twoeyedbob I've only ever had problems with the dual coil coils from Kanger. I've found they give decent flavour at first but soon fade. I decided to use T3S coils in my Aerotank and mPT3 and they worked better to be fair, last a while but the flavour isn't at the level I'd like. Thanks for the advice, really helpful. If I want it to be 1.5 ohms on a dual coil setup, then should I get 3ohms Res/no res wire?
Thanks again for the advice, it's making me feel well more confident about this step.

i should really know the answer to this..but i'll leave someone who knows for definite to answer...
from what i can gather though 1.8ohms is ideal for the mvp..i suspect 1.5 will be near it's limits for no advantage..it's limited to 12watts regardless..
Someone more knowledgable will be along in a while

Anything lower than 1.2 ohms on the MVP is pointless as the device can't use he full wattage range at lower ohms, although it will fire down to 0.8. So ideally you want it setup in the 1.2-1.5ohm range. I am not sure what res the wires come in, but for dual coils you should be looking for between 2.4 and 3ohms.

Here speaks the voice of one hell of a lot of reading and no actual practical experience lol, though I do have one of those minds that just remembers stuff I have read.

better than me...i remember small snippets of everything i read..it's like a collage in my heed...a big bag full of half sentences.
i'm i right in saying though ,that 1.8ohms along with the variable wattage would still give me access to the dizzying heights of 12watts.
(Of course as i never leave 7.5 this is a moot point)

Hi

I use a kayfun lite on my mvp2 a lot and its great, advantages are battery lasts forever.. i get sick of trying to remember to charge and rotate batteries on mods, when i cant be bothered or im far to busy the mvp is my go to.

I bought a precistion screwdriver set from flee bay for 99p free delivery, cheap and will break in time. But gives loads of small option for coil sizes and drivers for small screws :)

Ye you can use MVP to check resistance, i think 1.5ohms is best, but thats personal preferance.

I use organic cotton, which was a PTA getting hold off!!

I would suggest getting some .28 kanthal i buy from stealth vapes, cheap enough though delivery is charged. But very fast service and its enough to last 3months +

You may find the kayfun odd to fill, i fill it to 1mm above the chimney, top screw on enough for the liquid not to pour out. Then turn upside down, and tighten it upside down all the time my finger is on the air hole. Then with finger still on air hole turn the right way up, you need to allow the air bubbles to rise then realise your finger - It works off vacuum, if its done properly it almost never leaks, and vapes really nice.

picked up a kayfun lite last week and it has been my best purchase out of many yet :banghead: get some 0.28 kanthal from rob at stealthvape, get a 2mm drill bit and do 7/8 wraps and it should give you a reading of 1.5ohms and fire in some cotton and it will be your best vape yet, plenty vid's/tutorials on you tube to keep you right
