Some of the cottons intended for cosmetics use are bleached so not suitable for vaping, organic cotton is I believe the you want, for years I used rayon that was intended for use with plaster of paris to support broken limbs, I found it handy in atties with raised coils, it`s a bit stiffer than cotton.

There's been a lot of discussion about this over the years and I'm still not sure of organic cotton is any better than anything else... it maybe be worse than highly processed and cleaned cotton. That pure white stuff you pull out of some 'vaping cotton' bags has obviously been bleached with some chemical but not all bleaching agents are the same... and if it's cleaned and processed (like medical cottons) then that might be better.... any bleaching agents can be removed by washing.

Cosmetic cotton, that you are wiping around your eyes for example will not have bleach or anything that could harm you I would imagine.

Honestly, I don't know but 'vaping cotton' didn't used to be a thing at all.... people were using whatever they could get hold of. I thought we'd all decided that Muji isn't organic anyway, it's unbleached but I don't know if it's really orgainic, re-sellers call it that but Muji don't afaik.

Organic just means 'derived from living organisms' and as cotton comes from a plant there is no such thing as non-organic cotton. Manufacturers like using the word 'organic' as a sales term to make you think their cotton is better than everyones elses.

For our purposes, it's just a matter of testing out which types of cotton do the best job as a wicking material. People working in the cotton industry will have years of combined built up knowledge and know massively more than any one of us on our own so they can do all the graft to figure out what type of cotton to use as vape wicking.

We can then either accept their choices of 'vape cotton' or try out our own alternatives. If you buy the stuff from the right places it's so stupidly cheap that it's not worth the bother trying to shave a few pennies off the cost and most likely end up with a worse vape as a result.

aye, it is a bit confusing. i use the organic pads because it seems better to avoid cotton that’s been sprayed with chemicals but you are right, in that maybe the bleached stuff is better as it will be less likely to have natural impurities. who knows.

yes you are right, cotton is an organic substance in the chemical sense but in this context, organic refers to farming methods used. it just means the crops have not been sprayed with toxic pesticides and fertilisers. legally, it needs to be certified by an approved body to be sold as organic.

When you say "in this context" what you mean is using the word as a sales gimmic which they are trying to regulate to mean 'of a certain quality'.

When it comes to vape cotton there are only 3 things that really matter. Are the fibres nice and straight and free of knots, does the type and grade of cotton have the best capillary properties to deliver enough juice to our coils and is it sufficiently well cleaned and free of any chemicals that could taint the flavour of our juices?

Just writing 'organic' on the label doesn't tell us anything about that. That's just a way of trying to fool people into thinking it has some magical secret ingredient that means it's wonderful.

no, when i say “in this context” i mean in the context of regulated organic produce. it is quite a big industry and many people have a preference to purchase organic products as they might believe it is better for their health, or they are concerned about the environmental impact of industrial agriculture. and in this context, cotton is only organic if it has been grown and processed in line with organic standards.

whether organic cotton is preferable for using in a vape, i’m not sure, as i typed out above. but i think there are more than the three considerations. whether it is loaded with synthetic chemical residue from farming process is, i think, a big consideration for many.

Hence why I already covered that in terms of how well it is cleaned to remove all those chemicals.

There's a huge amount of knowledge and testing that goes into selecting the best cotton for our purpose so the idea that one person on their own can come up with a better answer is a bit like hoping to win the lottery. It's simply not worth truck loads of my time just to try and shave a few pence off the cost.

All I have to do is decide which brand gives me the best result for my individual situation. Job done. Move on to the next thing that's a better use of my time.
