RETURN OF THE CLONE WARS (?)

I buy clones purely because of cost. I have a few dvarw FL clones for example, my first one was an ulton which is perfect, buttery smooth threading, still going strong. The next one I got was DSX because it was cheaper but it's not as good. The threading sucks, the o-rings don't fit as well and have already broken so had to use spares, the whole thing just isn't as nice to use.

I decided to try a dvarw CL and went for the DSX. The threading still sucks, the o-rings are better at least but I knew it wouldn't be as a good as an ulton or yftk. I still chose the DSX due to cost.

Of all the tanks I've tried I do at this point feel like I owe it to the creator of the dvarw to buy a real one because I've loved it enough to buy multiple clones, but in general there's no way I can justify dropping £100 on a tank that I don't even know I'll like. If it wasn't for clones I'd have never tried enough tanks to even find the dvarw.

If I was rich then sure but we're saving for a house, hoping to have children in the near future etc and choosing to spend that kind of money when there's £15 delivered clones available is just too much for me.

One should always spend that which is a comfortable sum to your personal situation. :) There will always be constraints on what governs your finances and what falls within your personal comfort zone, I would hope that most of the membership would agree :)
However, I'll play Devil's Advocate here regarding those that regularly purchase authentic higher priced items. Whether one agrees with their choice, or not, really should not matter? The person who felt comfortable making such an outlay has done so because it was an acceptable expenditure within their available budget and that is their choice. It has become noticeable that these people tend not to talk as openly about their purchases as once was the case here at POTV, which personally I feel to be a shame, but I can also completely understand why this has now become the norm. On various occasions in the past, I have posted about such items and have received extraordinary responses either "on forum" or often via the PM system and had reached the conclusion that it was probably wiser to say nothing :)
YES, the majority of us have all been interested in an item and purchased a Clone in the first instance, to then perhaps purchase the authentic version when finances allowed. There is NOTHING wrong with this practice. Sadly I haven't had the greatest successes with this pathway, recently having to go down this route to try an RTA that was only released in extremely limited runs, that have now ceased. The Clone, in comparison to the authentic that I was lent, is pretty disappointing, but there we go. Conversely... There are Clones out there which in my experience at least, are BETTER than the authentic, so it's always a juggling act :)

I'm surprised that some people react that way about authentics. I'd have thought that most people, given the means, would prefer to own an authentic rather than a clone.

Along with disposables, regulations, Brexit, customs etc......clones play a part in harming the industry.

It's true but I do wonder how many authentic sales are due to someone first trying a clone and whether they would have made that sale at all if the clone wasn't available.

If your budget runs to original high end clones then buy them and enjoy them but if it doesn't then there's nowt wrong with buying a clone. I don't see how that harms the maker of the original.

Ok, lets look at this another way, if someone were to clone manabush eliquids and sell them for £3, would that harm Mr Bush?

I think that's quite different since liquids are consumables. If you buy the real liquid you won't still have it in a few months like you do owning an authentic tank/mod.

Unlike hardware I don't see how you can clone a juice as you've no idea what the recipe is.
